No Blu-ray 3D combo pack? :thmbsdwn:

And as per Movie Talk, this was the best entry in the franchise since 2.

ugh, what's this love for part 2 (okay, okay, you're entitled to your opinion) 3 was my favourite. Am guessing the 3D version might be a Best Buy exclusive [fingers crossed]

The love for part 2 is based on the fact that it's:

No 3D = No Sale.

Making it a retail exclusive is just ridiculous at this point.

No 3D = I don't give a shit. It's a fun gimmick, but it didn't add that much to the movie. I'll buy this because it was fun and dark.

Also 3 is the best one, in my opinion, part 2 is good too but 3 is my favorite! 4 is the worst one.

Bullshit.

Final Destination 5 had the best use of live-action 3D since Step Up 3D. From the opening sequence to all of the individual set pieces, Quale and company knew how to frame and stage the flick to get the most out of the technology. I ended up seeing the film twice in 3D due to how impressed I was by it. And I don't say that for most 3D films.

2 had the benefit of the premise already being set up but not the drawback of a tired franchise. That allowed them to still pull some decent actors and get as crazy with the deaths as they wanted. It seems once they passed 2, they kept going lower and lower with the talent to where they are grabbing people straight off the bus to LA to put in the films. 3 & 4 both felt like they were just going through the motions, ala Saw, and not actually creating something entertaining and/or fresh. Two is definitely my favorite. I'll have to give 3 another chance, I don't recall liking it at all when I saw it in the theater.

5 was a definite return to form, and the 3D was actually pretty damn fun in the theater. I have no use for it at home though.

Sure, it looked good for 3D, but that's still no substitute for a solid story and good effects work. They managed to make the 5th film a good one, which it would've been with or without 3D. Imagine if 4 had the quality 3D 5 had - nobody would give a shit because it sucked. I won't disagree they did a great job, but I don't need to pay another premium for the 3D BD to look like a nimrod wearing glasses in my living room anytime I feel like watching it.

But, of course, those of you who enjoy doing so will completely disagree with me.

Now that I have a 3D tv I'll take a copy. Thank you! No 3D option = a really bad decision in my opinion.

I agree with you on both counts.

from what I've read online, the 3D Harry Potter Parts I and II are Best Buy exclusives (and are not hardware bundle deals)

I'd rather have the 3D be a retailer exclusive than not available at all. Hell, I even bought The Final Destination on 3D blu-ray just to let the studio know that there is a market - and then they don't announce a 3D version of the one that actually made good use of 3D. I loved FD5 but I'm holding out for the 3D disc.

Buying a 3D TV = Waste of money

IMO

Well, then don't buy one. :) No matter how you feel about 3D, I'd think we can all agree that people who did spend the money on a 3DTV ought to be able to see movies that are fresh out of theaters in 3D too.

I am sure there are things that you buy that others think = waste of money as well.

I needed a new tv and got a tv that happened to be 3D as well for a nice price. So it was NOT a waste of money for me. I think buying movies is a waste of money but it sure is a waste of money that I enjoy.

Oh I definately agree with you but the problem is so far, for all the different 3D exclusives that best buy has had, they have had the price consistantly stay at about 34.99
unlike the other non 3D exclusives where great deals can be had inspite of best buy being the only retailer selling them.

29.99 was the best price that has been offered for example on the Dreamworks best buy exclusives and that was after a few weeks of them allready on the shelf.
but as you mention retailer exclusive is much better than nothing at all

That's fine, I can see needing a new TV and getting one that's 3D because it's the right price range or whatever. People who go out and buy 3DTVs just because it's 3D are stupid, no offense to anyone here but I think it's stupid. That technology is not going to last it will die out eventually. And I just think people who spend all this money converting over are wasting their time and their money! I believe 3D to be just a fad that will eventually disappear.

While Blu-ray is still a media format consumers are buying, I can see 3D televisions sticking around even if the manufacturers and studios have royally fucked everything up. For those who are in the market for a new 50" or larger television, 3D televisions are now coming down in price. I had a buddy of mine pick up a 55" LG for a bit more than $1k just a few months ago. Don't get me wrong, I believe 3D and Blu-ray 3D will always be niche, but some people do enjoy it.

Just looking at my HD Spending Tabs from the past year, here's all the Blu-ray 3Ds I've picked up:

12/16/10: Despicable Me / $50 / $22 / NBC Universal Store / Includes Blu-ray 3D + DVD + Digital Copy
12/21/10: Step Up 3 / $50 / $20 / Best Buy / Includes Blu-ray 3D + DVD + Digital Copy

01/11/11: Piranha 3D / $39.95 / $20.49 / Borders / Includes Blu-ray 3D
01/25/11: Saw: The Final Chapter / $49.99 / $4.99 / Amazon / Includes Blu-ray 3D + DVD + Digital Copy
03/29/11: Tangled / $49.99 / $16.99 / Amazon / Includes Blu-ray 3D + DVD + Digital Copy
04/05/11: Tron: Legacy / $49.99 / $15.99 / Target / Includes Blu-ray 3D + DVD + Digital Copy
10/04/11: Beauty and the Beast / $49.99 / $21.99 / Amazon / Includes Blu-ray 3D + DVD + Digital Copy
10/04/11: The Lion King / $49.99 / $21.99 / Amazon / Includes Blu-ray 3D + DVD + Digital Copy
10/06/11: Thor / $54.99 / $19.99 / Overstock / Includes Blu-ray 3D + DVD + Digital Copy

Nothing cost more than $22 and with the exception of one, all came with the 2D version on its own Blu-ray disc alongside a DVD and a Digital Copy. I also just snagged the 3D combo pack of Captain America from Overstock for under $20 and I still have the 3D combo pack of Cars 2 on pre-order from Amazon.
