Crappy artwork but I've been looking forward to this and will likely get it when it's $15.

I felt the director's cut was an improvement (watched it when EPIX aired it). Not sure it warrants a purchase, but definitely a rental.

And did he tweak the colour timing much like was done with John Rambo versus Rambo? That particular change was neglible (to me at least) in that movie but I think it's very necessary for The Expendables.

If it's $15-17, I'll probably pick it up since I'm a whore for Director's Cuts. And at least this is an actual Stallone sanctioned Cut and not some BS Unrated edition with deleted scenes re-inserted.
Not really surprised that Lionsgate just recycled the Inferno documentary that was on the previous release, which I own. It's a great documentary and I'm sure alot of people held off on getting the 1st release for this one and want that doc included.

I felt it was a very small improvement but agree it does not warrant a purchase if you already have it. One thing I did notice it seemed like the Steve Austin burning scene was a bit shorter and did not look as bad as the theatrical version but I could be wrong. It had been some time since I saw the theatrical version and that scene really bugged me.

The original artwork for this cover has a skull on it, and not Stallone's and in a red-fade color gloss. Would be much better if this was on the DC. If you click the 2nd link on the movie-censorship article, you'll see it.

Re: The Expendables: Director's Cut - December 13, 2011
This sounds great:
From beginning to end, this means that: That Barney Ross, played by Stallone, now seems emotionally crippled and much colder and Lee Christmas, played by Statham is blaming him for this several times in the new cut. The latter suffers way more from his broken relationship with his girlfriend Lace. He almost desperately seeks help and comfort from Barney – obviously without success. In the meantime, not only does Randy Couture get more time to develop his character Toll Road, fans will also be happy to see MORE Dolph Lundgren. Furthermore, scenes with him that were already in the theatrical cut have been re-edited and almost exclusively to his advantage. In the Extended Cut his character Gunner Jensen is for example less “demonized”, which makes his change of attitude at the end of the movie more plausible. Also his fight with Jet Lee, whose key points were vigorously critizised, now opens with the necessary calm before the storm. The editing is also better. This does not reinvent the whole situation, but it makes the most of it. Similar is true for the showdown, although the nature of the flaws was different there. The sequences is more logical now and the worst CGI, as well as most of the aweful special effects shots of the burning Steve Austin, have been removed.

However, the climax now ditches the great score originally used and uses the song "Diamond Eyes" instead. I hope that change doesn't come across as cheesy.

Plus they "toned down" the violence in the rescuing Sandra scene? That was a pretty good bad-ass fighting scene. Is the DC trying to actually come across as an Artsy Flick for intelligent viewers?

That's an improvement in my eyes.
