Boardwalk Empire Blu-ray release
What is the reason for the delay?
Season 2 starts on Sept 25 and usually the DVD comes out before a new season begins but there is no announced release date. Is there a problem related to music licensing on the DVD release? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...Intertitle.png |
Re: Boardwalk Empire Blu-ray release
I don't know what HBO's reasoning is here, but I know of at least a few friends who are hesitant to tune into S2 simply because they don't remember enough about S1. They were planning to buy it on BD and do a marathon before next week.
HBO gives everything a release before the new season starts, so this glaring omission puzzles me. |
Re: Boardwalk Empire Blu-ray release
It can't be music rights issues - as studios are well aware of this and make sure they have the home video rights before even showing the episodes. I'm going to take a wild guess that it has more to do with HBO trying to push their HBOGo site? That's about the only logical thing I can think of...they want more sign-ups there. I just hope they don't delay a Game of Thrones release for the same reasons!

Re: Boardwalk Empire Blu-ray release
I think HBO is pushing out a lot of packaged-media releases. Mildred Pierce finished five months ago and no date for that one either. Maybe they were losing subscribers because people decided they could wait?
|
Re: Boardwalk Empire Blu-ray release
I don't get it either - I wanted to buy the blu-ray and subscribe to HBO for the 2nd season, but now I can't. Do they want us to illegal download the episodes? (not that I'm going to, but you know a lot of people will - which will hurt sales and subscription numbers, just because of this delay)

Re: Boardwalk Empire Blu-ray release
could it be HBO GO related? like they want people to sign up for the service and watch there? Seems dumb, especially as most cable subscribers (including Time Warner Cable) can't use it.

HBO Go is a free service to subscribers, where as HBO would make money selling DVD and Blu-ray sets, so I don't see how that makes sense.

Re: Boardwalk Empire Blu-ray release
i asked a friend who is a dvd buyer for a chain... he says HBO is holding all 2011 series on DVD for next year so that they can show huge sales numbers for 2012. Mildred Pierce is out Jan 2, and BE later in January. GoT in March.

Don't understand the logic for that when they could release them now or in Nov & Dec for Christmas sales which would mean even bigger sales?

HBO possibly is expecting strong figures for the fourth quarter already but will need a boost in the first quarter of 2012 so the balance sheets don't go out of whack.

The Digital Bits is reporting that the current print edition of USA Today lists a 1/10/12 release date for S1.

Re: Boardwalk Empire Blu-ray release
-screwy-
That makes no sense for HBO to release season 1 on DVD/BD after season 2 has completed airing and to top it off they are releasing it in January. They are going lose alot of potential sales from late November through Christmas. |
Re: Boardwalk Empire Blu-ray release
Hate the cover. For such a beautiful show you'd think they'd go with an actual shot of the boardwalk.

Re: Boardwalk Empire Blu-ray release
Obviously it's the Boardwalk but it looks like an illustration. I far prefer the image in the OP.

Re: Boardwalk Empire Blu-ray release
So how long until the whole series hits Prime streaming? I think I saw the first one or two seasons on there already.
|
Re: Boardwalk Empire Blu-ray release
Maybe never since I think HBO has a deal with Apple.
|
Re: Boardwalk Empire Blu-ray release
I thought the Apple deal was only that they have a 3 month exclusive for the new HBO streaming service. I thought Amazon had the deal to show most HBO shows.
I'd like to pickup the whole series sometime, I really enjoyed it. Never picked up the last 3 seasons. |
Re: Boardwalk Empire Blu-ray release
Will that complete set have any extras that aren't on the individual season sets?
|
Re: Boardwalk Empire Blu-ray release
I would just buy the complete series set but I already have the first three seasons on Blu-ray already so I'll just wait for price drops on the last two.
