not sure how 'Thor' got to be DTS-HD MA - but I ain't complaining, the soundmix is jaw dropping!

Yeah, it's weird. Thor and Captain America are DTS, but Transformers and Super 8 are TrueHD.

And yes, Thor's audio was terrific. The lightning made for great surround sound.

Saw movie in the theater, will rent for a day or two.

This is a buy when it gets down to $9.99.

The cover makes it look like a sequel to "Little Miss Sunshine" or one of the "Kill Bill" movies.

Looking forward nonetheless since I didn't see it theatrically.

Yep, that's it. It took me a while to catch that. I think having the theatrical poster tacked on the bottom is what was throwing me off. Well, that and them choosing more of a generic yellow instead of the signature Kodak yellow/orange color.

re: Super 8 -- 11/22/11

Exactly the photo I was about to post, Bob.

My family had a Super 8mm camera when I was a kid (it's sitting here in my home study, actually - a 1968 Bolex 7.5 Macrozoom http://www.bolexcollector.com/cameras/75macro.html) and when I saw the Blu-ray cover art, I immediately remembered buying Kodak film cartridges like that and having a stack of our home movie reels in that same red-and-yellow style box.

When so many Blu-ray / DVD covers are photochopped crap where the only person who could care less than the studio is the director, the Blu-ray art for Super 8 is brilliant and it's a clear sign Abrams and Spielberg have a respected, engaged voice and the studio cares about the release.

re: Super 8 -- 11/22/11

I get that they tried to make the cover look like an old super 8 film box but if you're going to try to replicate the look then they either needed to go all the way with it (i.e. remove the picture at the bottom and use the correct shade of yellow) or not do it at all.

I, personally, would have preferred they just stuck with the original poster art for the Blu-ray/DVD cover:

I wonder if any retailer will have an exclusive steelbook? I hope so.

Re: Super 8 -- 11/22/11

I was going to wait on this until it showed up in my Amazon quick picks and saw there was an additional $5 off coupon code (type in "Woodward" at check out). Got it for $18.74 shipped. This is a total blind buy for me but I've enjoyed all of Abrams' stuff and it sounds like a movie I'll enjoy.

Re: Super 8 -- 11/22/11

The review at highdefdigest http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/5607/super8.html says the slipcover has the yellow/red artwork, but that the artwork for the actual case is different.

The actual cover art of the disc case has no yellow or red and instead uses the same theatrical poster art with the vertical skyline and the silhouette of the water tower in the distance.

Really like the slipcover idea. This is going to be a nice release.

Re: Super 8 -- 11/22/11

The French Steelbook is pretty sweet.

Spoilerized for size;
Spoiler:

I was lukewarm on the movie, and even more so now with distance from it, but if we had a Steelbook like that over here, I would probably pick it up.

Not a fan of the company/BD logos and UPC on the cover, but other than that it's a pretty slick design.

Re: Super 8 -- 11/22/11

Went ahead and pre-ordered it with the "WOODWARD" coupon for $5 off.

Re: Super 8 -- 11/22/11

We pre-ordered it on Oct. 23 and then you folks posted the coupon a few days later so I canceled the pre-order and made a new one with the coupon, thanks.

I placed an order for Super 8 and a CD that was in my quick picks that day, but the WOODWARD coupon didn't work. It did work when I placed the same order but chose that quick pick CD without the 5% quick pick discount, so I don't think the WOODWARD coupon stacks with any other discount.

I'm hopeful that the Amazon price will go down in price a bit more come release day, as $19.99 is more than I want to spend on a single-movie Blu-ray release.
