If it brings back some of the smaller storylines....well, maybe not. Nonetheless, in the book I thought the smaller stories were still very good. While they never bogged down the main story, I can see why some stuff was not left in the film. Then again, I have no idea what extra stuff they filmed. Either way, I'm glad this is seeing the light of day in the US.

I really like these films, but I already bought the first 2 on Blu only to sell them at a bit of a loss when the box set was announced.
I'm interested in seeing these to see if I'd want to own this version. Really annoying with all the double dipping on these films. And no lossless sucks too.

Awesome.
I've been wanting to see those extended versions. I can the films benefiting from the extra time with the characters and story.

I admittedly haven't watched the extended version but there has be some padding. The only way there wouldn't be padding is if the perfect runtime after all the best editing decision resulted in 6 episodes of equal length and that's practically impossible. Considering that the theatrical cuts don't have uniform runtimes I tend to be crazy in thinking that more care went into the editing. I believe the first movie also is cropped to 16x9 to match the other two in the extended configurations as well.
The third movie in particular changed a lot of those storylines as opposed to cutting them out (if I remember correctly the whole thing with the editor being harassed via email was cannibalized into another element of the story and radically changed her behavior compared to the book) so it may be pretty hard in some cases. Again, I see a lot of potential for padding, the extended editions have been available worldwide for some time and you don't see people citing specific examples of awesome deleted scenes.
Knowing Music Box its very likely but its probably too early to tell.
I agree. Only things with elves and laser swords are worthy of trilogies and alternate cuts. You are a lucky man to have her.
I'm sort of curious to see them too. When I express doubt that they improve the story I'm not trying to sour-grape my way out of buying the EE's, I'll buy them and make my own comparisons, I just think all signs point to these things being a blatant cash-grab. This thing is like a literary and cinematic phenomenon in Sweden and they're milking it for all its worth.

Think I'll give these a rental and wait for the big boxset with both cuts of the films.

Strange comment. None of the "Lord of the Rings" films were released with the extra footage first in the theaters. But the "Dragon" trilogy were, outside of the U.S. So why not get to see the original cuts? The books are huge. And many people said so much was left out of the films. So hopefully the extended versions will show that.

Found a review of the release. Sounds like improvement on both PQ/AQ. Only 1 hour long doc to go with the set.

Suppose I should watch this, as I have the UK Extended Edition set sitting on my shelf, all sealed.

per bluray.com the bonus disc is the same one that was released with the theatrical box set, so basically if you have the first box set, and need to see the new footage (and per bluray.com its presented in "miniseries" format as 2 "episodes" per movie), it seems like this is a pass to me

Re: "Dragon Tattoo Trilogy: Extended Editions" - 11/22
I watched the extended edition of Dragon Tattoo. The only difference I noted was a subplot which bought the story back to Millennium more often and an added sex scene with Berger. I thought the theatrical cut was a lot better paced and the subplot with Millennium just fizzled out at the end.
It kind of killed all the fire I had to watch the other two where I hear the additions have the opposite effect of better pacing and more well rounded story.

Uncut and extended?

That's interesting, but doesn't answer my question.
How is the "extended" version of the first movie different (besides the A/R)? Are scenes added/removed/replaced? The old Blu-ray release looks to be 152 minutes. Is the new one 180? Do the individual segments have their own title sequences?
