It's a shame that they could not include the FREE commentaries on the disc itself. I'm sure Sony had a hand in that decision.

I love Fright Night, but there's no way I'm paying 30 dollars for it. Maybe if it had any decent extras...and was 2 discs....

Re: Fright Night (1985): Twilight Time exclusive - 12/13/11

To be honest, those commentaries aren't very good, there's not really a ton of interesting information, and they are poorly moderated and recorded. I like that they exist, but having them on the disc wouldn't have really been much of an improvement. Would I liked to have had a making of on the disc? Absolutely. But looking at what I used to pay for DVDs even 6-10 years ago, $30 seems reasonable. I just figured I got such a steal with $10 for Evil Dead 2 on Blu, that if I average the two together, I'm only paying $20 each for Blus of two of my favorite 80s horror flicks.

^^ If you're a fan of the film, they're worth listening to. I enjoyed them thoroughly. I wasn't expecting a Ridley Scott type of discussion.

I had a fun time listening to them as well - they're relaxed, entertaining, and informative. If you don't go in expecting a tightly-organized, Laura Mulvey-style academic analysis (and who would?) then they're well-worth checking out.

It was money well spent for me.

Re: Fright Night (1985): Twilight Time exclusive - 12/13/11

I like fan-ish actor centric commentaries generally as well (and there are some really great ones out there) but I think it's funny and a bit odd that in most of the complaints about the Fright Night blu ray people point to these two "great" commentaries for the movie that should have been put on etc, when really they aren't all that good. Interesting to a big fan of the movie (as I am) but could have been a lot better if they were more focused, had less participants and were a lot less narration of on screen action. I don't think they would have added much value to the release, and I think more in depth one on one interviews in the form of a doc (hell even an AUDIO doc as a podcast instead of a "let's throw our lap top in the middle of the room and hope the mic pics everyone up" style "commentary) would have been something I would have really liked to have seen.

As would I - something comprehensive, put together by Red Shirt with Roddy McDowell's home movies from the set and the participation of Amanda Bearse, but it's not going to happen.

I watched some of this at a friend's house the other night. It really looks spectacular. I need to order it asap.

I think it's interesting to note it still hasn't sold out yet. Kind of sad the demand hasn't even exceeded 3000 copies. I guess Sony was right in not wanting to bother investing anything into it.

I think the demand exceeds 3000 copies, but the general public has no idea about this release, and the people who do know about it are scoffing at the price.

But that's not necessarily true. This is a Twilight Time exclusive and not many consumers know who the hell Twilight Time is. Until their release of The Egyptian, I had never heard of them, and I'm more up to date on those types of things than the average buyer. Plus, look at what is being charged. I imagine a lower price and greater exposure would have resulted in a lot more sales. I'm not saying it would have been worth it for Sony, but I seriously doubt the true demand for this title is so low.

Edit to add: It looks like Kory beat me to it.

This.

I'd certainly upgrade but not at the asking price. The reviews and stills look great and I definitely love that Twilight Time did a bang up job with the transfer but I just can't afford that kind of price for an upgrade.

I think a large part of it is the price. I understand about the small distributer/collectors edition/limited quantity factors.... but in this economy, right around Christmas, $35 is a lot of money.

I am hoping somebody snags it from my Amazon wish list and buys it for me. If not, I'll see how my $ situation is at the end of the month and if it's still available.

I dunno, between us here in DVDTalk, blu-ray.com. etc etc etc, there aren't even 3k people on here who want it? I mean you can simply Google Fright Night blu ray, or even look on Amazon and it'll come up. So it's not a big secret for those interested and wondering if it is availbile on blu ray. But Darth and others said it - that damn price.

Re: Fright Night (1985): Twilight Time exclusive - 12/13/11

I wish Pal Joey and Swamp Water were available for pre-order, but I ended up getting 3 extra copies of Fright Night along with The Rapture (which I had never heard of but which sounds intriguing) for the autographed freebie. I'm sure I'll be able to unload the Fright Nights on Amazon for a profit at some point, and as the film is one of my all-time favorites (I've got the original press book), I simply must have the autographed copy!

Well, I'm hoping too many people don't plan on preying on those of us with limited funds this time of year because the earliest I can order this will be Dec 30th.

Maybe those last 499 will hold out until then.
