..I picked this up thru amazon also..it's a great edition and the inclusion of "you're so cool Brewster" makes this a great deal..i already bought the 3 disc "you're so cool Brewster" a few months ago and will probably look to sell that one...

So, in terms of raw picture quality of the feature, not regarding the merit of any extras, I take it the new Eureka release puts all the other extant BD releases to shame? There have been, what, four previous releases, so topping them all is a tall order. I don't want to QUINTUPLE dip if I don't have to, you know!

When I was doing some comparing on caps-a-holic (Fright Night page), it looked like Eureka has the same transfer as the initial Twilight Time release. Although didn't that TT release have compression issues?

Yeah, I rolled the dice on the steelbook when Zavvi opened pre-orders. I didn't own a region-free player at the time but word was spreading that this was indeed a region free release. I gotta say, it is beautiful and I can't imagine a better version being released. The film looks about as good as you could hope for in high definition and the inclusion of the documentary, "You're So Cool, Brewster." is the icing on the cake.
My regrets over missing the Twilight Time release are over. In fact, I can't imagine that I would ever pay full price for a Twilight Time disc ever again. I'm glad I picked up "Moby Dick," but it'll be the last Twilight Time release I purchase at full price. I appreciate what they attempted to do as a fledgling distributor, but I was never a fan of their pricing strategy and I think it will fully crumble. The UK's Powerhouse/Indicator Films will be a thorn in their side going forward. They've already assembled a terrific line-up of films, many in the Twilight Time catalog. They're all region free and come packaged in clear Criterion-style keepcases. Even better, their discs are priced at $15.99-no need to wait for a sale! I just ordered "Body Double," "Hardcore," and "The Last Detail." I am looking forward to their gorgeous box set of the Ray Harryhausen Sinbad films in June. I am gonna put in a request for them to acquire "Apt Pupil," a film I desperately want in my collection that went OOP on Blu-ray via Image Entertainment ages ago...

Good to know the TT's inflated pricing sceme is starting to crumble. Good riddance.
When other blu-ray distributors can offer the same titles at 1/2 price or less of TT's fancy "niche-pricing" model, that tells consumers something. Further, the transfers and encodes of those titles are often BETTER than Twlight Times' encodes.
This possibly bodes well for catalogue title releases in the future, $15 to $20 seems to be about what the market will bear, and $30-40 is simply too much. Companies will have to adjust or die out...

Re: Fright Night (1985): Twilight Time exclusive - 12/13/11
Twilight Time is a good distributor and I've purchased a large chunk of their catalog (vast majority at $14.95 and below). But as you stated, if others can offer the same titles at down-to-earth prices and without limited quantities, the folks at Twilight Time are simply gouging their customers. This limited supply strategy was only intended to artificially support higher prices. Thankfully the enterprising people at Powerhouse Films/Indicator decided to license the same titles and release them region-free--I love capitalism and competition!

I hear ya. I fully regret pulling the trigger on the Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia TT EE release when a mere month later the excellent Arrow set was announced. Unless its a sale, I'm officially done with Twilight Time.
I live in Canada and with the dollar low I ended up spending 55 bucks on John Carpenters Vampires all in, because I thought it would sell out. So they GOT ME on their limited releasing strategy. It's the biggest buyers regret I've ever had when it comes to physical media. Vampires is a 13 dollar catalogue purchase at best.

Re: Fright Night (1985): Twilight Time exclusive - 12/13/11
I picked up "Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia" during TT's recent MGM housecleaning. I've never seen the film but I had to bite at $15. I don't regret my decision one iota at that price. But I am still wincing that I paid $30 for "Moby Dick," only to see it drop by 50% in such a short time. That truly left a sour taste in my mouth. I usually exercise far more caution and patience with my Blu-ray purchases. I rarely buy studio titles on release day. My strategy is to wait a few months or, in some cases, just a few weeks for a sale. Often, I will simply find them "used" at local shops with slipcovers and un-redeemed digital codes at prices $10 and below. So, paying the inflated prices Twilight Time offers goes against my better instincts.
I actually expected far more of those titles to go OOP by the end of the sale and I think they will have to go to a $10 bundle strategy to fully clean house on some of the MGM stuff. Obviously, even the hard-core collector's market finds their prices unpalatable. But all-in-all I think I added some stellar titles to my collection and I do love that they try to use original poster art on the inserts and discs.

Amazon UK has this in stock for $12.99 shipped. I could care less about the steelbook, and the price is right on this, so I'm grabbing one.

Amazon has the UK version for sale again. $12.99 shipped to the US after conversion. I feel bad for the poor saps that spent $30+ for the Twilight Time edition, especially since this one has a 4K transfer. I think I'm going to put in an order for this and John Carpenter's Vampires, comes to $30.95 for both and they are region free.
EDIT: haha, JINX!!

I don't think Sony or Twilight Time knew that Fright Night would be a massive seller when it was licensed. Sony's home video department made mistake after mistake when it came to Blu-ray catalog after they started firing people in 2008.

I'd rather them give the rights over for their entire catalog and have TT sell their films at $30 to 40 each instead of those stupid BD Mod discs they have been doing. What a waste.

I accidentally ordered a second copy by accident. I forgot that I initially ordered it from Zaavi, because they had the pre-order up before Amazon UK.

I wouldn't worry too much about their BDR strategy. Powerhouse/Indicator Films is releasing many Sony titles and one of those happens to be "Body Double." I think the BDR idea is DOA.

Got shipping confirmation for Fright Night. I would of loved the Steelbook but for 13 bucks, I'm not complaining about the regular edition .

From the article, it sounds like they're combining elements of the American package and the UK package. I wonder if it's the two-hour-plus version of the "Brewster" documentary that was on the Eureka (the original is apparently over three hours).

The extra hour in the "You're so cool, Brewster" documentary covers Fright Night 2, so in all likelihood it will be the 2 hour version.
Speaking of Fright Night 2, it still needs a release!

The 1988 sequel to the 1985 film this thread is about. The 2013 film is a sequel to the 2011 remake.
