There was a recent auction where it was just the disc itself that sold for around $65. The guy bought the movie and it had another copy inside, so he made a copy of the cover and you don't get the book.

Will this ever get a normal release and be under $20?

Actually, the way that I understand it (and if someone knows better, please correct me) is that Twilight Time only has rights to it for three years. After that, rights revert back to Sony, who can re-release it, license it out again to TT or any other company, or just sit on it.

I was under the impression that Twilight Time extended their deals with Sony and at the earliest, we'll see another Twilight Time Fright Night go-around occur at the end of this year.

I hope so since I missed out on it the first time around. I'd like to see them reissue Christine too, for the same reason.

I will not pay $300 since almost every Blu-ray or dvd gets released again or a new special anniversary edition comes out in a couple of months.

Has TT ever reissued a title? This, along with the 1990 Night of the Living Dead are the only two titles they've released I have any interest in but I won't pay outrageous aftermarket prices.

Can they? Is the 3,000 limit all they can get from the studios?

They'd have to negotiate a new deal. After telling everyone there is a 3,000 limit, then releasing more would be a real dick move. Well I guess their business model already is a dick move, so it wouldn't surprise me. My money is on Mill Creek, maybe not this one, but the Sinbads.

If Mill Creek gets this, what do you think the chances are of them doing a Fright Night/Fright Night II double feature?

It's a number they came up with themselves based on their past experiences with limited edition soundtracks, but they've worked it into some (all?) of their deals.

Given what has transpired so far, they were previously limited to 3000 units per license term (supposedly 3100-3200 units are produced to cover defects and other issues). An upcoming TT Blu-ray will be limited to 5000 units, so we know the numbers could be upped going forward if TT is willing to take on the risk.

No one really knows the situation with Fright Night except Sony and Twilight Time when its 3-year period is up. I don't for a minute believe that Mill Creek gets Fright Night, this is a BD currently trading for over $200 and $300 on the used market.

I like the film, but I certainly wouldn't pay that for it. Maaaaaaybe for Criterion's The Third Man. Maybe.

I always imagine it to be the same handful of people buying and reselling the same copies over and over again to themselves just to make a few extra bucks each time.

Re: Fright Night (1985): Twilight Time exclusive - 12/13/11

The most I've ever paid for an OOP DVD or blu-ray (note: a single film, not a box set) was about $100. I'd have a hard time going any higher than that because I know chances are, sooner or later, it will get reissued. If I paid $100 for Twilight Time's Fright Night or Christine blu-rays and they didn't get reissued for another 5 or 6 years, I'd feel okay about it. But with my luck, I'd bite the bullet and a week later a reissue would be announced with a superior transfer and more substantial bonus materials, retailing for $15. That's usually how these things go.

I sort of feel the same way, but then I realized I paid about $50 for 3 titles from Arrow Films recently.

There's got to be a way they can release titles that could sell for around $13 or so. I really don't believe there are only 3000 fans of Fright Night in the entire world. Let's just look at the numbers. About 70,000+ copies of the 2011 remake were sold. That's not including DVD sales which were around 80,000 (not sure if they would say a Combo release counts once or twice).

Twilight Time wants to convince me in thinking they can only sell 3,000 copies of the original and barely make a profit?

Hmmm.

3,000 units is a huge run for a catalog title on Blu-ray. Most catalog titles, even those from the major studios, are very lucky to sell 1/3 that many.

Very few of Twilight Time's Blu-rays have sold out. 3,000 is more than enough copies for most of the titles they release.

Are there more than 3,000 fans of Fright Night in the world? Maybe (though, having watched the movie recently, I can't fathom why).

Are there more than 3,000 people in the world who would buy Fright Night on Blu-ray? Apparently so, given that the disc actually did sell out. However, a good chunk of those copies were bought by scalpers who marked them up and listed them on eBay.

Would Fright Night have sold 3,000 copies if it had been issued on Blu-ray by Sony a few years ago rather than Twilight Time? Honestly, I doubt it. I really do.

In the case of Fright Night, the "limited edition" hook worked, and convinced people to buy it who would normally have passed it by and left it to linger unsold in Walmart bargain bins.

Lionsgate owns Fright Night II and they've been sitting on the movie for a long time but I don't think they lease films to anyone else as far as I know.

I think Twilight Time has been pretty upfront all along about the fact that their license is for 3 years and after that the title can be released again, whether it comes from Sony or any other 3rd party studio. That includes the possibility of Twilight Time re-releasing it themselves.
