Re: Toshiba HD DVD 4.0 Firmware still available?
Toshiba HD-EP35 (HD-EP35KE) - low frequencies output problem.
I have Toshiba HD-EP35KE player (region-free + FW 4.0) - when testing this unit with HD DVD test discs Silicon Optix HD HQV Benchmark HD DVD and Joe Kane Productions (JKP) / VideoEssentials DVE HD Test & Demonstration Materials HD DVD + R1 NTSC DVD Combo I found that for some reason my unit is not sending out to the amplifier / receiver (Onkio TX-NR929) any frequencies below 60-70Hz. In Toshiba configuration I am using HDMI out with Auto (full auto multichannel bitstreams for Dolby, DTS and (L)PCM). For other players/sources connected to Onkyo (Funai VHS, Pioneer BD, Pioneer LD, Sony MD etc.) the low frequencies are working as expected. Any ideas how to solve?

I'm going to give the obvious hack answer. The unit is probably a decade old and is crapping the bed. If it was working before and not now, it doesn't seem at all like a settings issue.

The ethernet doesn't work for getting firmware anymore- you just get a message saying "Can not find out server." I've got most of the firmwares saved on CD-ROMs- BTW in case you didn't know, the A2, A20, A30 and A35 can be made region-free and PAL-capable for standard DVDs.

try this:
http://www.mirrorsite.net/files/tosh...EP35_ver_4.zip
You'll have to unzip it, and it'll leave you with an .iso file.
Burn that .iso file to a CD using IMGBurn or whatever (you have to use the image-to-disc option)
Should work...

I found an old "Venture" brand HD DVD player, which basically had the same internals as the Toshiba A3.
I placed the A3 4.0 firmware upgrade disc into the Venture deck and low & behold it upgraded the firmware with no problems.

Has anyone changed their A-35 to a region free player? I have a A-35 and would like to try this out as my Oppo region-free player bit the dust a few years back.

I may have an A2 boxed up, but it would only have the stock firmware.

with a firmware disc from Toshiba. I used a cd-r, dvd-r, & dvd+r with no luck.
Of course if you try to use the firmware upgrade through the player itself it can't find the Toshiba server.
Ok finally got a disc that burned right using Imgburn. But when putting it in the hd-dvd player & hitting the yes button when it ask you "Do you want to update the version? I get a 2007C5C1 error.
Going to try a different hd-dvd player.
Ok hank all 4 of my HD-DVD players out of the closet.
The A2 runs the image burn disc I created but I get the above error. It also says can't find server.
I have two A3 models, both won't load the dvd I created. Just just keep on trying to load/read the disc. But when checking the firmware
update through the player. It says both players are updated.
The A30 model won't read the dics, I tells me it can't find the server.
I use to have a A20 & HD-XE1, & LG BH200. But sold those years ago. I guess since all the players are out of the closet. I will test out the remaining hd-dvds I have.

Is the 4.0 firmware needed for any reason? It's been well over a decade but does it have issues playing certain discs? I know I have an official disc somewhere - just not sure what firmware it is (I believe for my XA2)

I just tried to do this but keep on getting a "This disc is not dvd format. Cannot play the disc" error on the tv screen. On the hd-dvd player display I get M55G. I'm pretty sure I have done this before

I would check if there's any archive links for your specific players. Folks at AVSForum would be far more likely to be able to help out.
Better option is to buy a cheap Xbox HD DVD add-on, plug that into any PC, and [redacted because this place is laughably against "piracy" of dead formats except for when it's a paid advertiser.] to get a backup copy.
Edit: or were you using the individual files for each one? Try these:

That file I posted (Four years ago...) was only for one specific model. You're lucky you didn't brick your players, to be honest...

Out of about 255 I brought. I sold about 100 of them. I still have about 155 left. Out of those 155, 66 of them never been open. Out of the 89 that have been open, 23 of them don't play anymore.

I'm sure I tried that firmware when you first posted it. It's been a long time I took these players out of the walk-in closet. I'm even more depressed when I went through the box of HD DVDs I have.

I think just about every Warner title is on someone's list of faulty titles. I know there were problems with some of the Universal double-sided discs as well.
I haven't checked through all my discs but I'll cross those bridges when I get to them. Some of them I'll probably never watch so what I don't know won't hurt me.

Old ass bump, but I Found my official 2.4 update disc from Toshiba for the "A" line, as well as an untitled one (unsure what its for, possibly my XA2). Even found my ancient BH200 dual BD/HD player, that I think was region freer something?
I have a huge tub of HD DVDs I'm just itching to watch

If I were looking for that firmware, I'd probably private message that user directly. Going by their postings, they still hang around the forum occasionally but likely aren't checking a thread they haven't posted in for years.

Just google the file name of the A30 firmware file. You will likely find all the firmware files for all models on a mirror somewhere. Try searching for HD-A30-4000N.zip
