Something Weird is going Blu-Ray
Both come out September 27th and are available for pre-order at $12.99 each. 4 movies for under $26 isn't bad

Too bad there's probably no chance anytime soon of getting all 3 Basket Case movies unless something's changed from the DVD releases. Something Weird did the first one, Synapse did the second and Fox did the third. Not only that but they were also released out of order, 4 years apart from each other. Basket Case (2001), Basket Case 3(2004), Basket Case 2(2007).

From what I've heard, the next one they're doing is Herschell Gordon Lewis: The Godfather Of Gore. (possibly not)
One thing I really like about their releases is that the discs are almost always full of trailers and tons of other extras. I wonder if they'll take advantage of the extra space on blu-ray to fill it up even more? I kind of doubt it but it would be nice.

Re: Something Weird is going Blu-Ray
Very excited about the Blood trilogy.
Hopefully the don't try to cram all three movies on a single 25-GB blu-ray. Bitrates would thereby be atrocious. Even if all 3 are on a BD-50, bitrates will still only be moderate at best (mid 20's I'm guessing?) because of the extended run-time of the three films. Hopefully they do NOT cram the disc full of 'extras' at the expense of picture-quality for the features! Their DVDs of the Blood trilogy were encoded at a very high bitate, and were Dual-layered.
Hopes high on this one, please do not disappoint, Something Weird, on your first Blu release. Let's set the bar high!

Looking some more, I might be wrong on that. I think some sites were confused with The Godfather of Gore getting his Blood Trilogy out on blu-ray and thinking that the doc Godfather of Gore was also getting a blu release.

Rock Shock Pop review of Basket Case
Looking at those caps made me a bit nostalgic - we used to rent this one repeatedly in junior high. Maybe if the price drops under $10 I'll pick it up.

Re: Something Weird is going Blu-Ray
Judging by the review, I'll probably pick it up when it's a little cheaper. I'm usually pretty fast to pick up Horror/Cult releases, but the transfer on the SW DVD is solid.
That blue line is pretty random though on the BD. I can't even see it on the DVD Screencap but it's like right there on the BD.
Hopefully the HGL stuff doesn't have the same transfer issues/limits.

Looking ahead to other possible Something Weird releases, is there anything "good" in their catalog? I'm not knocking Terror at Orgy Castle or Mighty Gorga, mind you - whenever I visited my brother in NYC as a kid we'd always rent a few Something Weird tapes from Kim's - but their (impressively extensive) output seems to be entirely no-budget mondo trash (not that there's anything wrong with that, of course), and I was curious as to whether any worthwhile films, and potential HD releases, were hidden among the dross.

My review of Basket Case: http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/50164/basket-case/
The short version -- Buy it. Now. I can't believe the asking price is $11.99 pretty much everywhere for a disc that looks this great.

Intriguing comparison obscurelabel!
Blu-ray.com review of Basket Case
I don't know why this hasn't shown up in my Gold Box, every other horror/exploitation Blu-ray has.

I'm liking all the praise for the transfer for Basket Case.
Might have to look into picking up a copy soon.

Re: Something Weird is going Blu-Ray
Picked up both yesterday and loved the transfers. I've seen Basket Case a lot in a variety of different formats and this is hands down the best its ever looked, I noticed all kinds of things I never noticed before.
My only complaint about the SWV Blu Rays is that they don't have the great Something Weird song/intro like all the old DVDs had.
