It really seemed like AB rushed that first wave of BD releases, just to get them on the market.

And the Evil Dead Franchise strikes again! I will buy it if there are any new extras because I LOVE special features and special features were the reason I started buying Blu-Rays in the 1st place. I'm still waiting on a Terminator 2 20th Anniversary Blu-Ray announcement to include all previous DVD & Blu-Ray extras along with a Feature-Length retrospective documentary. The Evil Dead Trilogy and the Terminator Trilogy(I own the 2 seasons of TV shows, and the Salvation movie,I'm just counting double-dips) are driving me insane on the double dips.

Anchor Bay owns the rights to their DVD-era supplements (the commentary was from the Elite laserdisc) so Lionsgate probably couldn't release a definitive release if they tried. The stuff they're making is probably to replace Anchor Bay's stuff that they don't have access to.
But yeah, its funny to look at this thread and see ignorant statements like "and so it begins" as if there's some sort of evil deity who forced the rights to the movie to change hands thus requiring a different studio to release something when the old studio can't.
The same thing happened when the first film was announced on Blu. People acted like it was some outrageous multi-dip even though there was a perfectly good reason behind it: it was the film's HD debut.
Anchor Bay milked the hell out of this series in the DVD era but that really has nothing to do with releasing the first film in an HD format and a completely different studio re-releasing the second for legal reasons.
Furthermore, Anchor Bay's "Evil Dead II" disc is a DNR travesty and anyone who actually cares about the presentation of the films they watch should at the very least see this as an opportunity to get the film released right in HD for the first time.
Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert own the rights to the first film outright. It'll be released on home video by whoever they license it to. "Evil Dead II" is owned by StudioCanal so it was only a matter of time before Lionsgate took it over.

From Fangoria:
While chatting up all those Sam Raimi associates, (Michael) Felsher has also been talking to them about EVIL DEAD II, which Lionsgate Home Entertainment issues on a new Blu-ray currently slated for November 15. While Felsher can’t reveal everything you can expect to find on this disc, he does tell us, “There will be a huge making-of documentary with over two dozen members of the cast and crew [including Campbell, pictured above], and much more. Also, Lionsgate is aware of how dissatisfied people were with the transfer on the previous EVIL DEAD II Blu-ray, and are taking steps to solve that issue for the new edition.”

Step 2: Digital color correction and maybe some manual dirt/scratch removal
Step 3: THERE IS NO STEP 3. QUIT FIDDLING WITH THOSE KNOBS.

I'm keeping my old one just for the extras, there have been so many over the years and I can't see Lionsgate picking them up if they're doing this new doc

Evil Dead II, the film nobody can release properly.
Does anyone have the link where Anchor Bay talks about why they released it so many times and how every release they made some error since they never checked anything in over the one hundred thousand times they released a new edition?
