What's the future for Star Trek seasons on BD?
Anyone hear anything about if series like DS9 or Next Generation are going to get the HD treatment? I know the remaining 2 seasons of the original series are supposed to come out by the end of this year....

I don't think you'll hear anything like that until at the very least, quite a bit after TOS is finished being released.

This has been discussed several times in the existing Star Trek threads, but: The problem with the later Trek shows is that although they were shot on film, they were edited on SD video, and their effects were rendered in SD. For them to be released in HD, the original film elements would have to be redigitized in HD, then each episode re-edited. I question whether Paramount will ever spend the money to do that.

I have no doubt in my mind that they will one day do just that, its just a matter of when. they know there is a huge audience out there for these, and seeing as how trek is back in the public eye again, and being embraced by a whole new audience, the intrest in seeing the other series in HD is sure to be high as well. its just a matter of when.
In all likely hood i think the next trek series that we will see on blu will be Enterprise, The episodes look amazing when watching them on HD Net, so i can just imagine how great they would look on blu.
the other 2 series you asked for will take several more years iam willing to bet.

That is if Paramount wants to go back, find the original film negatives to each episode of TNG, clean up and re-master the film, re-edit the episodes into the way they were presented, and then re-do the visual effects.
For each episode, that price tag could be upwards to $1 million if not more. For the entire series, Paramount would be paying close to $200 million. All for a video release and possible re-runs in syndication?
Yeah, not going to happen anytime soon.

That could be awhile, if it was twenty six million dollars plus to make one season to HD, Paramount took forever to understand that $100 a season for too costly, Maybe in ten years?

They did digital cleanup, color correction, etc., but the cost of that pales in comparison to re-editing every episode of TNG, DS9 and Voyager.

actually i has said the other 2 only because the OP only asked about deep space nine and TNG.
so yea me saying the other 2 doesnt mean Iam "YET ANOTHER FAN WHO HAS FORGOTTEN ABOUT VOYAGER" as you put it.
I was actually quite a big fan of star trek voyager and would love to have it on bluray.

Depends on how much $$$ you're paying the special effects editors and video editors to make the new versions. That's a $hitload of money to fork out, and it's probably why Paramount and other studios don't bother giving classics a true work over. It would be nice if they did, but I would bet there is some serious money involved in re-doing episodes because you can't just call up anyone to do the work.

Re: What's the future for Star Trek seasons on BD?
I think I'll just finish DS9 on DVD, already have 4 seasons worth. TNG on the other hand, I only have one season. Love that show though, do I keep collecting on DVD? Decisions decisions...

Re: What's the future for Star Trek seasons on BD?
I just can't see Paramount re-doing TNG, DS9, and VOY in a high-def format. Each series had just under 200 episodes each and DS9 and VOY in particular had a hefty amount of FX scenes. That's just far too much time and money for them to devote. Still, it would be amazing to see the battles of the Dominion War in high-def glory.

I would re-buy all the seasons of each series in a heartbeat if they remaster them in HD!

Any hope for ST: First Contact to make it to blu-ray? New movie just got me thinking about it and I was surprised that the dvd was OOP.

Re: What's the future for Star Trek seasons on BD?
That's a shame. I would really like to pick up The Next Generation on Blu-ray. And, yeah, I'd probably pay $60-100 a season.
But right now, I'm more concerned about getting the rest of TOS.
