Grindhouse 2-Disc BD - not extended cuts :(
 

Sure, this came out in October 2010, but I just picked up the 2-disc BD of Grindhouse (Planet Terror/Death Proof).

I have the extended cuts on SD, and I assumed (always dangerous) that the BD would have the longer cuts.

Needless to say I was surprised these weren't the extended cuts - and was woefully disappointed that the lap dance from the extended cut is relegated to "missing reel" status.

You may now return to whatever you were doing....

Why would you expect the extended cuts when this was clearly a release of the full theatrical version? I'm happy it's the version that played in theaters - that's the one so many of us had waited years for them to finally put out. The last thing DEATH PROOF needed was more chatter. I think the shorter cuts are better anyway, and the theatrical GRINDHOUSE is the perfect length overall.

Yea, I can't fathom why the OP thought this edition would contain the extended cuts at all.

This was being advertised as the theatrical cut of the movie.

With that said, the extended cuts are available separately on Blu-Ray. I would have liked to have seen an "ultimate" set with both the extended cuts and the theatrical cut, but at this point, I was glad that the theatrical set was simply released.

I will agree with that statement. I guess my only disappointment was I was waiting for the lap dance scene and I had temporarily forgot that there even was an extended cut.

It wasn't until afterwards that I checked and was reminded of the extended cut. And in my temporary insanity I had assumed the BD was extended, as well, and not the all-for-one theatrical presentation.

Case solved...

That is why I didn't buy this release. Will buy the next one when they do it right.

If you want to watch the extended versions of Planet Terror and Death Proof, those are on Blu-ray too. Grindhouse is Grindhouse, though. :) A lot of us were thrilled about the release of the theatrical version since it had never been released on these shores. Personally, I prefer the shorter cuts, and I'm glad to have had a chance to see the rest of the trailers again.
