Re: James Bond Update
Yeah I think Moore had the advantage of being Bond during a prime era for the character and the spy genre in general. Plus he played the character for a long time so to a lot of people he was Bond. Personally Dalton is my favorite Bond. I always wished he would have had more chances to play the character which may have happened if not for the legal issues with the series and gap between films.

Moore is my favorite Bond. People confuse which Bond they like with which Bond movies they like best. He fits my platonic ideal of Bond better than any of the other actors that have played the character.

ie. Moonraker, A View To A Kill, Octopussy.
Though I do have a fondness for Moonraker, since it was the first James Bond movie I ever saw when I was a preteen. At the time, I really liked it.

Moore is the Bond that I grew up with. It really took me years and a few tries to accept anyone else in the role. Octopussy remains one of my favorite Bond films.
I did see a few steel books at BB over weekend, and it just made me irritated. I've already sold off a few of the ones that I had.

I too grew up with Moore as Bond and it's probably why I accepted Dalton straight away. Loved Bond movies, couldn't stand Moore as Bond once I saw the older movies on TV and VHS.

I really like Octopussy too, and the woman who plays the second banana is fantastically beautiful. View to a Kill is unwatchable for me, though.

For Your Eyes Only is just about the only Moore title I care to revisit.

Re: James Bond Update
Moore's films were uneven, but I rank Live and Let Die near the top of the best Bond films. Also Spy Who Loved Me, with its great opening sequence and the British flag parachute.

I bought all the one-disc individual white cover Blu-ray releases when they were last on sale. Any word on a Spectre release in the same style?

Re: James Bond Update
I really enjoy this movie a lot---it's up there with my favorite Bonds. From the theme song, to Grace Jones, it's pure 80's fun.
I read one online review a while back that I thought was pretty appropriate. It basically said that the key to enjoying this movie is not judging it as a poor attempt at a serious spy movie, but rather seeing it purely as an older man's fantasy.

Re: James Bond Update
In a victory for James Bond completists, a federal judge has refused to dismiss a proposed class action suit alleging that MGM and 20th Century Fox deceptively marketed a James Bond box set.
Mary L. Johnson, of Pierce County, Wash., purchased one of the box sets from Amazon in February of 2016 for $106.44, only to discover that “Casino Royale” (1967) and “Never Say Never Again” (1983) were not included. She filed a lawsuit in April, accusing MGM and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment of violating Washington’s Consumer Protection Act and breach of express warranties.
Judge Ricardo S. Martinez issued a ruling on Thursday dismissing parts of the complaint, but allowing the substance of the allegations to move forward. Martinez’s ruling hinges on the claim that the box set included “all” of the James Bond films.
The defendants claim that the word is open to some interpretation, and qualifies as advertising “puffery” which is not subject to litigation. Johnson’s legal team — from the firms Eisenhower Carlson PLLC, of Tacoma, Wash., and Statman Harris & Eyrich LLC, of Cincinnati, Ohio — countered that there is nothing vague or subjective about the word “all.”
“No reasonable person, unless a James Bond expert, would understand that ‘all’ does not mean all, and ‘every’ means only certain films,” the lawyers wrote.
In his opinion, Martinez declined to dismiss the claim at this stage, and said a jury would have to decide whether the term was misleading.
“A jury must determine whether a reasonable person would expect ‘Casino Royale’ and ‘Never Say Never Again’ to be included in a complete set of James Bond films,” Martinez wrote. “From the Defendants’ perspective, this claim will have to ‘Die Another Day.'”
The judge granted a motion to dismiss parent companies MGM Holdings and 21st Century Fox from the suit, and dismissed a claim of breach of implied warranty of merchantability.

Narratively, it's also a very close copy of Thunderball. Admittedly, the Bond franchise has a pretty shaky and contradictory canon, but making NSNA an official entry would mean the series has two movies with identical plots and characters. Doing so would just not make any sense at all.

It wasn't produced by EON, and as a knockoff was not able to incorporate a number of important franchise hallmarks, such as the 007 logo, the James Bond Theme, or the montage-y opening credits. The movie sticks out like a sore thumb for those alone.
