Re: James Bond Update

I ordered my copy from Amazon UK for now. For $120 you can't really go too wrong for twenty two films unless it turns out it isn't region free. In which case I'll just cancel my order or possibly look to getting a region free player (which I've been considering anyways).

I doubt we'll know if they are region free or not before it ships though?

Quite possible... I'd hold off preordering if you NEED it to be region-free.

dont these usua;;y show up early enough to know if its region free?

Re: James Bond Update

I decided to pre-order it anyways and take the gamble, but I'll monitor the price and might cancel if it doesn't go any lower. I would actually bet it will be region-free, just maybe not a $120 bet...

I just checked Amazon UK to find the blu box is no longer up for pre-sale. They must have realized their error and pulled it before they had to give away more of them at the ridiculous price of 79 pounds sterling + a mere 3 for shipping (about $116.00 U.S. the day I calculated). I am quite sure in the description it did say Region: B/2. In any case, those of us lucky enough to have gotten this set before they yanked it should perhaps hold on to it until the last possible minute to cancel. At $5.28 per title, it would even be cost effective to purchase an inexpensive region-free Blu-ray player.

Their listings almost always have region B/2 written, even in the case of region-free releases. There's still a chance it might end up region-free.

This is great news that they are finally putting out the ones I don't own, but I hope they sell them individually. Otherwise I will have to go to the bother to sell the ones I already have and lose money :(

Everyone think it's safe to assume that the Blu-rays of the already-released Bonds will be the same in this boxed set?

I'm dreading getting rid of my current discs only to find out half the bonus features have been removed or (worse) the transfers aren't as good.

I think it's very likely that the discs will be made from the same pressing masters, but whether or not that's the case, I can pretty much guarantee you that the transfers will be the same.

I've been checking that listing for days and never saw it disappear. Still there, at around £78 after VAT.

For a few hours it was a "sign up to be notified" listing.

I'm fairly confident that because this is going to be a HUGE release and the same distributor in the US and UK that it'll be region-free. FAIRLY confident.

The previous Bond Blu-rays were locked to each territory, despite being distributed by Fox worldwide. Fox is a region coding happy studio.

Also, the UK Blu-rays of some of the early Bond titles did not contain the original mono soundtracks, which are present on the North American editions.

FAIRLY confident. lol.

The real question is if these are new discs or a repackaging. But we wont know that for a while.

Those who haven't ordered the set yet should check their Gold Box today - it showed up in mine for $189.99.

I thought Gold Box's were always completely dependent on your account and browsing history.

Yes, but in the past I've noticed that pre-releases often appear initially in Gold Boxes on the same day for several people.

Re: James Bond Update

I was able to get about $60 for my Bond Blu-rays trading them in to Amazon (some were still in shrink wrap, so I was able to use the "new" option on many of them)...not great, but not bad considering they're all selling for under $10 these days.

I went to a concert of Bond music the other day and thought of this thread. I think I have only five of the BDs so far but will hold off on further purchases till I see how this set shakes out.

So, what are the chances that these will be re-released individually? And at the same time, match up (though no deal breaker) with the previous Bond releases?

Dependent upon what you've recently purchased.

I'm sure they will be...but probably not until at least a year after the boxed set...or around the time SKYFALL comes to Blu-ray.

As for packaging, that's anyone's guess.
