Re: James Bond Update

I like Craig but honestly don’t remember much beyond a few scenes from anything that isn’t Casino Royals.

Dalton’s movies were OK but just too unpleasant for me.

FTR I decided not to pull the trigger on the UHD Vudu set. I have them all on BD, and if I want the digital convenience, a lot of them are streaming right now.

I pulled the trigger. I've only watched Dr. No so far, but it looked FANTASTIC in 4k.

I do think we are due for another Bond and it is true that Craig seems to always feel burdened playing the most iconic characters in one of the most if not thee most successful franchises of all time. And I do remember a lot of Connery hullabaloo during his run, especially with Never Say Never Again, I believe. Now, why is he playing Bond, yet it’s not part of Broccoli Bonds?

I also do think Idris Elba would make a great Bond with those piercing eyes and British good looks.

Re: James Bond Update

Never Say Never Again is an oddity. Basically the reason it was allowed to be made as a stand-alone film is that the story that became Thunderball was written by Ian Fleming as well as a couple other guys. One of the guys filed a copyright claim because when Fleming turned it into a novel he didn’t credit him or the other guy. From the claim he won the right to do an adaptation of the story. That’s why the movie is more or less a remake of Thunderball.

Ah. That makes perfect sense ;)
Thunderball was Moore and had that Jaws, as in teeth, guy who died?

Jaws (Richard Kiel) was in The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker.

Thunderball was a Connery flick.

Two things:

1. Not this again.
2. British good looks?

He was born in London, England and is a very good looking man. British good looks. As one heterosexual thinks that is.

oh, it’s been so long. I really want to go through again. My late grandfather got me into the movies and I remember seeing a Dalton Bond movie with him in FL whenever. Been watching ever since and caught most of ones before my time...

Even if Elba was a good choice I think he’s too old at this point. The guy is already 48. So he’d be in his fifties by the time he’d even get his first one made.

True. But I dunno another good actor to really play him. Maybe some newcomer?

It will probably be someone unexpected...like Craig was. I'd hire Domhnall Gleeson, but he's a longshot.

Oh wow, I just realized Domhnall Gleeson was in About Time (loved that movie) and General Hux in Star Wars. It completely flew over my head that they are the same actor.

He was also the lead in Ex Machina and is currently in the HBO series Run. He's a little too scrawny to play Bond, IMO. He'd have to bulk up considerably, and I don't think that would look very good on him.

He’d make for a good Q, although the current actor playing that role is young enough to stay in there for a while. But Gleason wouldn’t make for a good Bond. Good actor though.

How many Bond movies(laserdisc,DVD and blu-ray) have an isolated score besides Tomorrow Never Dies (DVD)?

Which Bond movie(Laserdisc,DVD and blu-ray) has the most combined different commentary tracks? I would think Goldfinger and Thunderball because they had more than one release on laserdisc?

Dr. No, From Russia with Love, and Goldfinger were all briefly released on Laserdisc by the Criterion Collection with exclusive audio commentaries, but the discs were later recalled and reissued without the commentaries when one of the film's producers threatened legal action. Years later, Goldfinger was reissued in a deluxe THX certified box set by MGM that had two new commentaries which eventually made their way to DVD and Blu-ray.

Thunderball had a similar THX deluxe LD box set with two commentaries, but that film had no prior Criterion edition. The THX LD reissues of Dr. No and From Russia with Love had no commentaries. However, each got one new commentary for DVD and Blu-ray.

How about Charlie Hunnam? Good actor, Brit, charming, strong presence, I think he'd be a good fit.

Re: James Bond Update

Might as well go Tom Hardy. I think he’d pull off a modern British spy with the attitude and his own brand to the role.

I’ve watched About Time more often than I’d care to admit. ;)

But yeah, he’s been in Peter Rabbit, one of the Christopher Robin movies, a good episode of Black Mirror, and the other stuff mentioned. I don’t think of him as an action star, but I’ve thought that of other actors who then pulled it off.

He was also in Harry Potter as Bill Weasley (one of the older brothers). One of those guys that just does stuff there in the background of movies but doesn't really stand out.

Not really true because he’s been the lead of many movies. That doesn’t mean he’s ready to lead a huge franchise, of course.

Re: James Bond Update

Well, Damien Lewis has taken himself out of the running to be Bond. But he's 49, so it's unlikely he would have been under consideration anyway.

Of course when I would decide to start marathoning the Bond films on Prime Video they’d get taken down. Only available to purchase or rent on Amazon now and not seeing them on other platforms. May just break down and get the 24 film set at some point. Some of the ones I’m missing seem to fetch fairly high prices on eBay.

That's because EPIX no longer has the rights. They controlled the Bond rights whenever they hit Amazon or Hulu.

The Bond movies have a really short term license. I think they only last a few months on streaming services tops. I posted they were available on April 7th 2 pages ago. That would make it only 4 weeks if they were dropped now.
