Re: James Bond Update

I've bought the "complete" Bond twice on DVD, and I have about five of the classics on BD and I think they're great. But I just can't imagine laying down a wad of cash to buy them again.

Re: James Bond Update

It made me laugh that they put Lazenby and Dalton together in the dark on the end of the boxset.

This really sucks. I bought all the ones put out so far and my price was $10 bucks or less. With all of them in the one set for $200 though...that is a pretty good deal. I may just say fuck it, sell what I have and get the new set.

Re: James Bond Update

Never bought any because I figured a boxset would eventually come out. Plus I have the 4 boxsets of the DVDs so that's enough for me to hold off on a good price (hopefully) for next Black Friday.

All over that UK box set if confirmed to be region free. Still states "B/2" under region in the description.

Re: James Bond Update

Well i just made $150 from selling my complete James Bond Special Edition (2002 and 2003 editions) on ebay.
ANd I sell have the 4 box sets containing the 2-disk ultimate editions of the first 20 bond films and I have the 3-disk casino royale and 2-disk Quantum all on DVD.
I guess I will definitely have to get this though. (when it hits $100 that is)

Duh. I was exaggerating to make a point.

Re: James Bond Update

Disappointing that we (might) have to wait until October to get this...that's not a very big window to watch all 22 Bonds before SKYFALL comes in November.

I, too, was laughing at Dalton and Lazenby on the end...I guess they don't meet the "gold" standard.

Oh, right- because your non-hyperbolic, matter-of-fact statement was so clearly exaggeration.

If that is anything like the other recent box sets they have been selling; I will just wait it. It will be less than half that in a few months. The Aliens box set could be had for $25.00 or less. And I got the complete Harry Potter box set for less than $50.

I wonder if they'll start re-releasing them individually when Skyfall hits blu-ray...

I'm in the same boat. I have all the MGM Special Edition DVDs as well as the FOX DVD Box sets from a few years ago. So, triple dipping isn't appealing. I also have the SE DVDs of Casino Royal and Quantum of Solace.

But, for an HD transfer and additional new extras, I may bite on this one for a reasonable price.

Re: James Bond Update

The Amazon UK listing is now 89.99 pounds which is equal to $138.

I'm surprised this set is region coded. I bought the Lethal Weapon BD set from them in December and that plays fine on my BD player. So certain discs in the UK are region coded B and others are A?

Certain discs in the UK are Region B and others are Region Free (or Region A/B/C). My understanding is that some studios don't bother with Region coding, while others do, but still others are inconsistent.

That's correct - everything from Warner Bros. is never region coded, and I think maybe Disney as well. Not sure about the other major studios - but I think Sony DOES region code their releases.

Re: James Bond Update

They are bastards for doing this to us, but I will still be very tempted to get that UK set, IF it is region free.

I think the Bond movies are the most upgraded titles I own. I have upgraded them soooo many times I've lost count, starting with the VHS releases.

Re: James Bond Update

I would love to have this set. But I can't imagine dropping that kind of $ at one time. And I don't feel the need to upgrade my dvd.

I know that the UK Alien box set which is a Fox release is region free. I would assume that Fox doesn't put region coding on their releases but I could be wrong.

If this shows up in my Gold Box, I might have to seriously consider it.

Re: James Bond Update

The only ones I'd want are the early Connery ones, Goldeneye, and Tomorrow Never Dies. Sooooo once a sale comes around for those....I'll get those.

Amazon UK always states Region B/2 in the description unless it's part of the special features (Arrow listed 'Battle Royale's LE boxset as "Region Free" being an extra on the first printing, as example).

I'm fairly confident that because this is going to be a HUGE release and the same distributor in the US and UK that it'll be region-free. FAIRLY confident.

I don't know how y'all can put up with "will it/won't it" though if you import quite a bit... both my HTPC and set-top players can play... anything. We've got an Insignia WBRDVD2 in the bedroom that's region-free that I swear I paid $79 for.

Re: James Bond Update

I'm one of the ones which haven't purchased any Bond Blu-rays yet ... so I just placed my pre-order!!
Sometimes it really *pays* to be late to the Blu-ray party!!!
