Did you read my post? Your "concern" over disc art is pretty silly the way the packaging is set up.

I have never understood the obsession with disc art anyway but then again we have others on this forum whose private parts get tingly when there are six different slipcovers for one movie.

Some of the things people obsess, excuse me, have "concern" over is fucking hilarious and grating at the same time.

What a wonderfully ironic post. Thanks!

Why wait? Are you hurting for shelf space? $99 is great. I bought the set for $129 and thought that was already a good deal. You're not going to find that price for 22 movies anytime soon.

Same here.

I guess I should have picked up the Target exclusives the one time I saw them; haven't seen them in multiple stores at all lately.

Same here - the store I saw them in and got View to a Kill and Living Daylights had phased out the rack positions they were in within a week or so. And they only had one copy of each that day.

As for the Bond set, I frankly don't like the packaging at all.

Flipping LD was a pretty short-lived practice. Most players did it automatically and you only had to flip for films with multiple discs and CAV content. I don't understand how anyone could hate LD packaging. To this day anyone who comes to see my collection checks the LDs first. They actually take up the least amount of space on my shelf. The LP size and gatefold approach allows for the best artwork ever seen in the home format. I also love the detailed reviews and text content that was available even on the most bare-bones releases. They made great use of that extra space!

And LD is the only format to date where you can pause on actually frames, at 24fps (on CAV discs, of course).

Anyone still need/want a Skyfall ticket? I have one that I won't end up using, PM me for it.

EDIT: Taken.

I bought Bond on Black Friday, and couldn't refuse the prices they're selling at. I imagined the set is in print and prices will come back down, but Amazon hasn't gotten any more stock. Temporary issue?

If you are still looking for The Living Daylights Target exclusive, they have it back in stores. And thankfully, it's now re-priced at $9.99.

Yup, I found that and A View to Kill yesterday. No sign of Tomorrow Never Dies at the Target I went to though.

Why would they do that?

It's MGM; the question is the answer.

So they can repackage it next winter with SKYFALL included?

Correction. Fox released it.

Guess all of those who were hesitant to buy it are now shit out of luck unless they want to pay some inflated prices.

No, MGM still owns and controls its own catalog (or what's left of it), including the James Bond franchise. Fox merely acts as distributor. Whether the box set goes in or out of print is MGM's decision.

DJariya 12-17-12 04:20 PM

Re: James Bond Update

My mistake. I assumed that it was Fox's decision since they distributed it.

The whole point of that box set was to celebrate 50 years of Bond. Why would they re-release it again in 2013? Plus, as most of you already know the set has a placeholder for Skyfall since it was released during the 50th anniversary.

Re: James Bond Update

im wondering if this is the reason that amazon had the set so cheap on black friday week, like if they got a press release that it was going to be discontinued and they wanted to move their excess stock
it sorta makes sense if you think about it

It sorta doesn't. Why would they want to make less money off of box sets that are about to become scarce and thus command a premium?

jr7936 12-17-12 06:58 PM

Re: James Bond Update

if they knew they wouldn't be able to sell anymore and it would be taking up space in the warehouse like when best buy sold the ben hur set for 10.99 over black friday in 2011 to get rid of over stock and then the best buy one went out of print

I don't think anyone's expecting them to re-release it, but discontinuing it before Christmas while it's still the top-selling boxset of the year is a little questionable, don't you agree?

As of this morning it's back in stock at Amazon for $199.99.
