Re: The Official Arrow Blu-ray Thread

I rarely buy Arrow releases so just wondering why is the pre-order price for Robocop so expensive? I thought Shout/Scream Factory releases were a lot. Amazon has both editions listed at $49.95. I’m guessing the price will drop before release but cripes.

That's most likely MSRP.

I'll wait until it hits $22-25.

Yeah, I figured it’s MSRP but it still seems pretty high compared to other popular boutique labels like Shout/Scream or Criterion. Those are high with MSRP’s that are usually around $35-$40.

I'm going with the UK version, it's like 20+ shipped -- I'm region free, so don't need to worry. I've pre-orded Robocop and a few other titles at 20+shipped prices.

Arrow's frequent release strategy for high-interest titles is to initially issue a Limited Edition with fancy packaging, a booklet, and physical swag such as art cards and a poster. (The SteelBook is also designated a limited edition.) A streamlined Special Edition in a normal keepcase and a lower price point will follow later.

Re: The Official Arrow Blu-ray Thread

$49.95 is standard msrp for a 2 disc Criterion, so I don't find the pricing out of line.

Re: The Official Arrow Blu-ray Thread

You almost never see a Criterion actually go up at that price though. Seems like on the high end for a two disc Criterion they’ll generally go up for pre-order around $35-$40.

I see it happen a good bit for pre-orders on Amazon from a variety of labels. The initial listing doesn't always have a discount attached.

Maybe I haven’t paid enough attention I guess. I do see where the site that put up Robocop initially (Diabolik DVD) has it at $32.99 so I was just surprised Amazon wouldn’t be closer.

Arrow Video is reportedly releasing True Romance on BD

No word if it's a UK only or both UK and US release.

Re: The Official Arrow Blu-ray Thread

I have the Warner Bros. R1 release of True Romance, which I found used & cheap.

If Arrow is doing a restoration on the film, I would gladly upgrade.

How is Robocop ready for pickup for me at Walmart? Isn’t this out 11/26?

Man that Robocop SE is nice. Massive. Book, poster, 2 discs, some picture cards of scenes. Nice, typical, Arrow editions like these...

Canceled my B&N order of robocop and opted for the steelbook because it's $19.99 on Amazon.

Re: The Official Arrow Blu-ray Thread

Yeah, I got that RoboCop set. It is a great release, should've been called the Definitive Release... Now got the trilogy between this Arrow release and Shout Factory for 2 & 3. Too bad Arrow didn't have the rights to those and make a trilogy set in one box.

Re: The Official Arrow Blu-ray Thread

I wasn't planning on upgrading my various copies of Robocop but I ran into a copy of the Arrow Video Steelbook at Best Buy this evening for $19.99.

Couldn't resist at that price. Especially with the new restoration.

Anyone heard if there are plans to rerelease Hellraiser 3 separately?

I haven't heard any news from Arrow Video regarding that.

I know the first two films in the series were released separately a few months ago.

If you are Region Free, there is a copy of the third film up for sale on Ebay UK but the cost is about the same as if you ordered the Trilogy Box Set.

Re: The Official Arrow Blu-ray Thread

Coming in March in the UK:

Alejandro Jodorowsky is one of world cinema’s most fabled iconoclasts. Often venerated as the ultimate cult film director, the Chilean artist shot to prominence as a 1970s counter-cultural icon thanks to the masterful movies presented on this collection: Fando y Lis, El Topo and The Holy Mountain. These extraordinary films, presented here alongside his stunning new film Psychomagic, bedazzled audiences with their unique aesthetic, contrasting violence and beauty; the sublime and the sacrilegious; the mystical and the macabre...

Jodorowsky’s first feature, Fando y Lis, tells of young Fando and his paraplegic sweetheart Lis’s journey through a series of surreal scenarios to find the enchanted city of Tar. An ‘acid-western’ packed with vivid imagery, El Topo stars Jodorowsky as a master-gunfighter who duels with four sharp-shooting adversaries on his journey across a desert dreamscape. In The Holy Mountain, Jodorowsky plays The Alchemist, a guru who guides a troupe of pilgrims on a quest to ascend the Holy Mountain in search of spiritual enlightenment. Jodorowsky’s new cinematic experience, Psychomagic, A Healing Art, explores the directors’ radical therapeutic work.

Influential, controversial and endlessly fascinating, Jodorowsky’s surreal masterpieces are presented here in stunning new 4K restorations, accompanied with a wealth of illuminating extras, and new writing.
