Lord of the Rings Extended Edition out in 2011

Honestly, I like the new edition. The colors have a more striking quality when you watch the feature and it gives the image more contrast compared to the more blown out look of the original. I can honestly see why Peter would have changed it. The only think I find objectionable to that scene in general is when Boramear (misspelled) is holding the ring on the chain and looking at it. You can see a bit of color bleed on his stray hairs above his head. They look a bit cyan, even compared to the sky.
I still think most will LOVE this new transfer, it really is a huge improvement over the TE BD release.

No excuse for switching discs in blu-Ray, IMO.

Via Robert Harris at the HTF, the official answer to the infamous and highly controversial "green tint" question on FOTR...

Some will like it, some will hate it, some will be in-between...but it looks like this color scheme isn't being changed on the new disc.

^ Mr. Cinema already posted that...
Anyway, I still think it looks off but whatever. I'm not getting this set until it drops in the $45 range ($15 per film seems reasonable).

I interpret it as "we're not changing it...maybe next release."
I obviously haven't watched the disc, but based on what I've seen online I'd say I fall in the "in between" camp. I think some scenes look improved and some worse.
I'm waiting for a price drop also. This will probably be $45 or less by Black Friday.
Sorry about the double post. I checked but must have glanced right past it.

No shit, I watched the first disc tonight and I thought it looked incredible. I was looking for green tint and saw nothing but the perfect image I remembered. Very, very happy!

Wow!
So Bill started the process before the discs even arrived in peoples hands. Wowee! And someone else said, the shill must have a time machine.
All right... I'm sure this announcement is going to liven-up discussion around the Interwebs. As many of you are aware, Warner's new Blu-ray release of The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy - Extended Edition finally arrives in stores tomorrow. It's a damn fine box set, that we think you'll all enjoy (see our review here). Meanwhile, a few of you may be aware that there's been some controversy regarding screenshots and the color timing of the new 2K-remastered presentation of Fellowship of the Ring. Our feeling here at The Bits is that it's been blown out of proportion, as things tend to be these days. However, just to be sure, we started a process a couple weeks ago (before we posted our review) to encourage Warner Home Video and Wingnut Films to investigate the matter to make sure that the discs streeting tomorrow truly and accurately represent the creative vision of director Peter Jackson and cinematographer Andrew Lesnie. That process has been on-going, involving Wingnut and the filmmakers, and it appears it's finally concluded. Here's the studio's official statement on the issue, as of this afternoon:

Screenshots have been floating around on the web for some time. I believe they started popping up around the 1st week in June. Does anyone here know for sure?

I'll take Bill Hunt's entirely innocuous and respectful blatherings over Gizmo's perennial quest to invent another reason to complain about him, every time.

Looks to me like what he posted is correct. Screen shots showing the difference between the EE and TE blu were posted around the first week of June. That would have been more than two weeks ago and before he posted his review.

But hey, no worries. Warner likely does not want to do a recall but may eventually like Paramount did with Gladiator.
