Anybody buying this, don't delay in opening it, even if you don't watch right away.

I opened mine Sunday night, a few days after I had gotten it, and thankfully my set is completely normal.

Going to do the whole trilogy tonight. I found it odd the cases are in reverse when you open it i.e top to bottom rotk ttt and fotr. I had to rearrange them back in proper order. I think i have ocd

I don't think it's in "reverse" order. If you display them spine-side out, then it would be in the "correct" order. But I did the same thing you guys did anyway. :-)

Not to mention someone who has been a member of this site, or any DVD/Blu site, for 7 years and has over 4,000 posts.

Probably a good point, I just hadn't/haven't gone out of my way to look at more technical specs I guess.

Back on the color issue discussion, I've watched the first half of LOTR EE on Blu, and I don't notice a difference at all. The presentation looks great to me.

I jumped around to a few spots on both disks of Fellowship...

While the color timing was clicked a couple notches closer to cyan, it still looks natural and really great (The skies look a normal shade of blue and the snow is white.). I bet I wouldn't have noticed it at all if this controversy hadn't happened.

Re: Lord of the Rings Extended Edition out in 2011

Finished the FOTR EE second half and I'm still confident in the transfer, and won't be color-calibrating my 50" plasma.

Out of a scale of 1 to 10 of noticing a color difference, I'd say maybe a 2 or 3 in some scenes, but faces were realistic--on the DVD, I could argue it looked worse--and in other scenes, snow was white, water was blue, and as mentioned above, skies were natural-looking as well.

There is one scene--a few minutes from the end of the movie, which was when Frodo departs on his own and Sam is whining about coming along and flops around in the water. The boat Frodo is in does appear more green for a few shots. However, I have NOT compared this to the DVD and I don't have the theatrical versions on Blu, so who knows. Anyway, very minor observation, and certainly doesn't even warrant a screenshot or even the thought of it.

Now for TTT EE on Blu...

I guess you could make $15 or so off it, but I'd keep it if you're fan of the films. I'm waiting for the holiday sales but I'm sure it won't be lower than $50.

Sell it. Before you know it, the everyday price will be $42.

Drop by your used DVD shop in the fall and you'll find them for $30, so I'd probably would keep it if you want to enjoy the films in Hi-Def. They look great to me. You could score a few bucks selling it, but seems like a waste of time to do it.

Yea you guys are right. Sad part is that i still have the original trilogy set on blu sealed on my shelf. Got it from the whole black friday target debacle for $8. Maybe i should throw that one up on ebay and see how much i can get for that.

This was the set you should have been selling right away back on black friday. I managed to snag 2 copies at that price and it ended up funding about 8 blu purchases I had made on Ebay from selling both of those right away. The set you have now at that price you might make about $15-20 on Ebay perhaps. Whereas those had made me about $30-35 each.

didn't notice any tint whatsoever and thought everything looked so good.

the trees and grass in the shire were a lush green, the sky was blue, the skin tones were natural, the nighttime looked majestic. have no complaints with visuals at all. granted i've only seen part I of FotR, but looked so rich and detailed and absolutely gorgeous.

and that sound! fuggedaboutit. this is reference quality stuff through and through. even on low this booms with every nuance that each and every sound effect has to offer.

very impressed thus far. very.

I'm taking a vacation day this Friday to watch all three films back to back. I figured this would be the only way to do it without interruption from the wife and kid. Can't wait!

Continue the same great presentation. This issue really HAS been blown out of proportion.

I can't agree that the Shire scenes looked flawless... the contrast was reduced a bit, the sky didn't look quite the sky blue it should, and especially the shot with all the yellow flowers, looked a little dim. Most the rest of the film is perfectly fine though.

Any reason for me to hold onto my DVD versions of this at all? Thinking about selling them.

beautiful packaging and the fact they aren't worth much of anything in resale value?

$50 was what I was waiting for. Will get $22 for the DVD set after shipping expenses, so, all in all I"m pretty excited to see how these look and sound.

Yeah, I had to finally bite too. $50 was my wheelhouse. It will be a shame to say goodbye to my DVD boxsets (with the gorgeous overall box), but hopefully the blu versions of the movie will be worth it.

I personally would want to hold on to the theatrical versions just in case I'd want to watcher the "shorter" version, especially since I only paid $24 total for the set.

I saw it at Best Buy for $49 also. The "instant gratification" in me almost won out. Almost.
