That one minor change to the opening trap makes a huge difference to me. Can't imagine why it was cut.

The disc is 2D and 3D. So far Lionsgate is not impressing me. Lots of ghosting.

Any news of a cool Blu box set with all eight Saw movies together?

ah, thanks for the correction! I've been holding off buying them individually, hoping that a nice matching set is put together.

Re: Saw 3D-1/25/2011

honestly I don't get Lionsgate, they like making these bogus 7.1 remixes for the bluray versions when they can now actually state to the soundmixers of the films, make a 7.1 mix for the theatre which will then be used for the eventual bluray edition - doing it 'after the fact' seems just dumb.

I saw, well heard SAW 3D in an auditorium rigged for 7.1 sound, it should been mixed for those theatres that do feature 7.1 sound. I have no problem hearing the soundmix in 7.1 on my home theatre system, but it seems counterintuitive when theatres are also outfitted as such, Lionsgate should be on the same bandwagon with Fox, Dreamworks, Disney in releasing 7.1 films for the theatrical experience.

oh and Amazon has the combo 3D/2D release at 50% off at $24.99 currently.

The 2-d rental copy only has 5.1 and no extras.

An interesting revelation from the writer's commentary:
Spoiler:
The two other pig masked people with Dr. Gordon were Brad and Ryan, the guys from the public trap.

Like it was too hard to just show that in the movie? Yeesh... Glad that was answered since thats what most and I thought it would turn out to be.

Re: Saw 3D-1/25/2011

Just popped in the DVD at work, havent checked the blu yet, but the movie title says SAW 3D right after the opening saw trap... could they not change the title card?! Dumbasses... at least change it to SAW 2D!

Edit: Blu has the same Saw 3D title card too as the theatrical and dvd.

Re: Saw 3D-1/25/2011

Look, it's Lionsgate. They don't have Disney money where the 2D Blu-ray says Step Up 3 and the 3D Blu-ray says Step Up 3D.

[Did the 2D theatrical presentation say Saw 3D as well or Saw: The Final Chapter? I wouldn't be surprised if the encodes done for the BD and DVD came from the same source and Lionsgate were cheap and/or lazy.]

Re: Saw 3D-1/25/2011

I just picked this up today on BD. I have the rest of the series (1-6) on DVD, but I'm not planning on upgrading them.

The one thing that has disappointed me about the Saw movies is the bonus material. I like the commentaries, but I wonder why Lionsgate couldn't have produced a nice maybe 30-45 minute making of/retrospective documentary on the final movie and the series in general. Instead we get fluffy EPK featurettes...On this BD we get a 14 minute traps featurette, music videos and deleted scenes. Really? This series IMO has really impacted the Horror genre over the last 7 years and I think it deserved a nice little sendoff on this BD.

Re: Saw 3D-1/25/2011

Also, I saw the Unrated movie is only 90 minutes. Is there something online that tells what exactly was added to make it Unrated? I have to assume it's extremely minimal content.

The changes really are very small and fans are having a difficult time telling what has even been added in. The easiest change to see is the addition of Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan's names in the opening titles. The other changes are just a few added shots of blood here and there.

Totally agree but I can't help but think it's because there will one day be a box set with all 7 movies and new bonus material included.

Re: Saw 3D-1/25/2011

I'm not sure if this is just the Canadian disc or what, but there is no label on the actual disc itself - the art is just the red saw blade and nowhere on it or the dvd included does it have the title of the film.... not a huge deal but it kind of bugs me (Picked up the 3D version for the same price as the 2D because of an instore error).

Until the release of Saw V, the single-disc DVD editions of I - IV had similar packaging. The Blu-rays haven't mirrored this packaging until now.

In addition, the digital copy also has the title card for Saw 3D.

Re: Saw 3D-1/25/2011

Comparison between the R and Unrated are here, and it's 11 seconds with mainly very minor changes. But it's good to know there is a difference between the two despite people claiming otherwise originally. It doesn't look like anything to get to worked up about however.
