Red -- 1/25/11
Summit Entertainment has announced Red for Blu-ray release on January 25, 2011. Unlike recent day-and-date releases from this studio, this one will come out on a single-sided BD, not a "flipper." This action comedy, based on a comic-book series about a retired CIA agent, stars Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren.
Special features include: Audio commentary with retired CIA field officer Robert Baer Deleted and extended scenes Access: RED - Activate a variety of "scene-specific" features including interviews with cast members, real-life CIA expert commentary, animated documentary shorts on controversial CIA operations and more ************************************************ Funny, the trailers for this did nothing for me, but then I saw the film and I really enjoyed it. Glad to see it's not a flipper, otherwise I might've passed. The commentary track could be interesting. |
Re: Red -- 1/25/11
Oh, at first I was wondering why Blue and White weren't also announced.
Yeah, I'll check this out. |

Bestbuy.com has an exclusive version listed as well.

Re: Red -- 1/25/11
This was better than I thought it was going to be. I'll pick it up when its under $20.
|
Re: Red -- 1/25/11
Bestbuy.com has the standard version for $17.99. Their exclusive version is supposed to be a combo pack, but with this being Summit, it could be a flipper disc.

Target will be selling the standard version for $13.
|
Re: Red -- 1/25/11
I liked this in the theater but wasn't going to buy it day one. However, with that price for the standard, I may bite now.
|
Re: Red -- 1/25/11
Supposedly the standard version lists Dolby 5.1 as the audio. I hope that's a typo.

Re: Red -- 1/25/11
It looks like best buy's exclusive combo pack will be a flipper. It uses the same band at the top as Twilight: Eclipse

Didn't get a chance to see this one at the theaters, but looking forward to picking this one up this week.

Re: Red -- 1/25/11
It's been confirmed on blu-ray.com that the bare-bones version only has Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. That sucks.

Then I remembered the Best Buy combo deal likely being a flipper so I just went for the SE. I wonder if the rental version of the Blu-ray will also be DD only. |

Re: Red -- 1/25/11
So who's selling the SE for a good price and isn't a flipper?
|
Re: Red -- 1/25/11
No one. I think Amazon's $23.99 price is the cheapest without tax. Target is selling the SE for $22.99.
|
Re: Red -- 1/25/11
Forgive me if it sounds like I've been paying little attention, but are ALL the SE editions flippers? So just the non-SE is a single-side disc?

Well the the "regular" Special Edition Blu-ray is not a flipper, but it doesn't include a DVD. Best Buy has a double-sided Blu-ray/DVD that is essentially the special edition Blu-ray on one side and the DVD on the other.
Didn't exactly make this all that easy, now did they? |

Re: Red -- 1/25/11
What a debacle. I think I'll just rent this On Demand and be done with it...
EDIT: Oh, and "A rip-roaring good time!" Seriously? |
Re: Red -- 1/25/11
Don't let that asinine quote put you off it - it was a fun movie. Goes well next to movies like Shoot 'Em Up and Crank (probably a little less silly than those).
|
Re: Red -- 1/25/11
It's a lot less silly than Shoot 'em up or Crank, but not particularly realistic. It felt more like a lost Oceans (11) movie crossed with Whole Nine Yards. I really enjoyed it.

Re: Red -- 1/25/11
The lady at BB was nice to let me price match Target $13 for the BB exclusive flipper w/ comic.
