Although it looks like it won't be all of them, just Dracula, Frankenstein, and Bride. I was really hoping for The Wolfman.

Yeah, that would be disappointing if that's all the movies that are included, but I will get whatever the studio is willing to release. Wolfman and Invisible Man would be big losses. I'm still holding out hope for a Creature from the Black Lagoon 3D release.

Yep, we've just got to be patient and see what we get. At least we know we're getting something!

Re: New wave of Universal catalog releases

I'll be waiting on reviews and the comments of forum members regarding the new HD masters they are producing. I'll gladly fork over my dollars if they are finally committing to treat their catalog with respect. I own very few Universal titles on BD but would love to turn that around.

I still think that version is vastly superior to the English version.. If it had a better villain, I think Lugosi's version would have been overshadowed.

Better music, better cinematography, better direction, and a much better renfield. Why that actor didn't get an academy award is beyond me.

Re: New wave of Universal catalog releases

Those restored titles should all get digibook releases per the press release.

We may still get The Wolfman. The other 3 will receive pricey restorations. But The Wolfman could still get a BD release with less care. There is an HD version on Netflix streaming.

Re: New wave of Universal catalog releases

I'll pick up The Birds, Dracula, and Jaws if they come to Blu-ray. Already have a copy of To Kill a Mockingbird pre-ordered and am way stoked for it!!

Buck Privates now dated for April 17, according to blu-ray.com.

Strike another one off the Criterion Forum list.

So much for questioning the "new member" on there. He's been very accurate.

Re: New wave of Universal catalog releases

Are these digibooks going to have sleeves to hold each disc or will they have a hub in the front and back of the book? The other options would be one hub with one disc more towards the top and one disc closer to the bottom with some space between the discs (good), the discs could be stacked right on top of each other (bad), and, finally, the discs where you need to push down and slide the top disc to remove it (bad).

So, anyone know? Thanks.

Re: New wave of Universal catalog releases

I've already got Mockingbird on BD, the hubs are on the front and back of the digibook. It's a really nice set, the digibook is very solid, definitely among the best of 'em.

The transfer is great except for the 'zoomed-in' shots which look poor (but they always have done) and the soundtrack is equally great.

Interestingly enough, inside the set is a small slip advertising that Jaws and E.T. are coming to BD in 2012.

I'm surprised they're only releasing Jesus Christ Superstar on DVD.

Re: New wave of Universal catalog releases

If they'd only re-release "King of Jazz", I'd be a happy camper. I'll take it on either DVD OR Blu-ray, because my VHS is showing its age!

Love to see Dracula (both versions), Frankenstein, Bride, Wolf Man, Invisible Man, Creature, Mummy, Freaks, Mad Love. Yeah, basically all of it.
Yes indeed it's The Bride of Frankenstein and Frankenstein for me these two movies are the two finest Universal Monster Movies and I just cannot bear to think that I'll have to wait until October to see these movies in all their High Definition glory!

The Creation sequences in both movies are thrilling with their use of Kenneth Strickfaden's incredible machinery and Jack Pierce's makeup and the Art Direction in both movies is great but in Bride it's without doubt the masterful Franz Waxman which adds so much! I'm really looking forward to hearing the difference to the soundtrack the Universal sound engineers have made and the visuals to see how crisp they"ll both look and sound!

The extras on the UK disk are owned by another studio (Warner Bros, I believe).

Re: New wave of Universal catalog releases

I really hope they have a nice decent set for E.T., I have the Ultimate Gift Set and that was amazing, I hope all the special features are on there. Also I hope the 2002 version of the film is NOT.
