All three had Dolby True HD audio, so Spider-Man 3 had basically audio overkill. It wasn't necessary to include both but they did.

I thought it was still unknown if Spider-man 2 was going to have extras.

It would be beyond stupid to only re-do the disc for the first one, but not the second....

Well, considering what I've seen since BD launched, beyond stupid remains a strong option until I hear otherwise.

Blu-ray.com has the artwork up. The back cover doesn't list any features, so I guess these are the same bare bones discs from before. Thanks Sony!

Those can't be official, right?
They seem very much like something that might be in a magazine (with lame quotes from IGN about how these are essential films at low prices). The border looks like something Wal-Mart might toss on to appeal to the cheap crowd.

Still, I will hold out hope that these are full-featured versions. Wouldn't be shocking for Wal-Mart to have these "Essentials" at a lower price point while other stores are selling the full-fledged ones for higher, given how many out-of-date editions pop up in Wal-Mart Double/Triple Features.

I believe it. You are also right, but I believe the "border" would be cardboard or paper glued to the case to literally attract the Wal-Mart crowd, already inside a Wal-Mart.

But gees Sony, at least toss in the DVD copies so people can have Special Features.

Of course, that won't do much good when it comes to SM1 or 2 (or even 2.1), as the DVD releases of those were 2 disc editions, with the vast majority of the special features contained on the second discs.....you'd have to bump it up to a three disc combo pack if they don't do a new pressing for the BD....

Sony won't produce two different SKUs for a catalog release (one with Special Features and one without). Not going to happen in this economy. It might work for some New Releases, but not for catalog. Retailers won't want any part of that, especially when Lionsgate can toss out discs with Special Features for $10 every week.

This gives mixed emotions... If they release an all bells & whistles version, then I would be upset as having bought the trilogy and feeling as though I need to double dip. If they release a bare-bones, i.e. seperate disc from what came in the trilogy, then I feel they are cheap and that I have to keep all the DVD stuff I have just to keep the special features.. then again.. by releases nothing more than what I already have.. I can save money ... by not buying them again... ..

I hope these are just cheap hold overs until a real special edition version to coincide with the Spider-Man reboot movie.
