Hmmm, not spectacular at all. Looks like the digital version probably ate away at those physical sales of batman v superman.

Yea, it's only a 3% bump over the last 3 weeks and 5m more in revenue.

Not exactly setting the world on fire.

BD has been out for 10 years - how long are we going to be analysing the sales numbers anyway? Are there still some who think that it will break out any day/week now?

I really want to know how the UHD-BD sales are.

Not exactly setting the world on fire.

BD has been out for 10 years - how long are we going to be analysing the sales numbers anyway? Are there still some who think that it will break out any day/week now?

I really want to know how the UHD-BD sales are.
For the time being we'll have to settle for quarterly updates on digital and UHD BD from the DEG Report (should be coming out in a week or two for Q2).

Blu-ray is up 8.4% so far this year. The last two years it has been down. Meanwhile DVD is still declining the "normal" 15% a year, so Blu-ray seems to be having a relatively good year so far. Part of that I'm sure is due to the Stars Wars movie that came out, and hopefully when all's said and done that UHD BD will make a difference in the YoY for 2016.

Curious to see what numbers BvS does next week. I have a feeling the audience for that is more likely to buy digital...

I think that week is actually the week BEFORE Batman vs. Superman came out. It'll show up in the next one.

Yeah, that chart is for the week ending 7/16.

BvSDoJ came out on 7/19.

It will be interesting to see how that week shakes out. Nobody was selling BvSDoJ for less than $25 on blu, and $20 or less seems to be the sweet spot. It also saw an early digital release, and was a very polarizing film.

Dollar amount wise... not really all that much for a week with a big release...

DVD revenue is dropping like a rock. Streaming really is eating into its sales. Blu-ray seems to be maintaining a little better or picking up new converts on some level.

I wonder how much the Barnes & Noble Criterion sales help Bluray? Seems like that should give it a bump.

I am sure some amount of DVD buyers have slipped over to BR.

BR lovers normally do not go the streaming route, DVD is having a real rough year.
-Most likely first year a DVD title does not go over $30 million of the year

Genuinely surprised that Good Dinosaur sold so well.

Not that I assumed it would sell poorly, but better than Star Wars and #1?

Yeah, I kind of thought it was joke myself, or just made in jest. Criterion movies are so limited in audience, I can't see any of their bigger titles equate to making any kind of dent in overall sales.

Good Dino has been out a lot longer than SW.

By year end, SW will be the highest grossing DVD.

It's also a recurring sale so the year-to-year impact would be minimal.

re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - #2, but we try harder

I'm guessing that most current Blu-ray owners view streaming as a supplement to watching Blu-rays and can afford both options. Unlike Blu-ray, DVD has absolutely no advantages over streaming in A/V quality. The DVD-only customers are abandoning the format and transitioning to streaming.
