Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

Ebay is a tough gig. A whole different ball game. And too much like work. You do all the work and eBay and the post office end up with most of the money (unless you have some OOP disc, people care about, as you mentioned).
So at the risk of stating the obvious: You can save yourself the ebay fees, paypal fees, shipping fees, and a lot of TIME, if you buy and sell locally with craigslist/facebook.
I'm a little baffled with the responses I get on this forum. I can't be the only one here that uses craigslist/facebook. These are big sites with lots of traffic.

You said you score tons of deals on CL and Facebook but you also sell marked up discs on those two platforms as well? I belong to CL and several FB groups and overpriced discs don't move. I've tried. EBay is the only way I can move my garbage.

For me, I find craigslist is a great way to sell 200 DVDs for $100, if you really need to get rid of them quickly.
Otherwise, craigslist is a tough grind. When people drop into a pawn shop and see a $2 DVD or a $5 Blu-ray, they may buy it.
When people see a $2 DVD/$5 Blu-ray on craigslist, they have to ask themselves "Is it really worth getting in my car and making a special 15-30 minute trip across town to buy a few $2 DVDs?"
Even the rare out-of-print DVD market is shrinking on eBay with so many B-grade titles suddenly being released on Blu-ray.
Why pay $20 for the rare and OOP DVD copy of the Adventures of Ford Fairlane when you can now get the Blu-ray for $10 brand new?

Went over my data cap for the first time ever and it has to be because of Vudu. They waived the $25 since it was the first time but I guess I will just stick to discs for now.

I hardly notice new releases at redbox.

That was before sell through became the most profitable revenue stream for the studios. It's natural for them to prioritize what makes them the most money.

1,689 movies released 2013-2015 on netflix. No surprise DVD/Blu-ray sales and even Redbox rentals would be in decline. Why buy or rent when you can watch movies for pennies on netflix?

Which is why you apparently buy huge disc lots for pennies and seem to resell them for tons of money. Right?

If it's the same one I'm seeing you can click the little link next to it and see multiple people selling it for $16. I hope you don't assume the highest price item will actually sell on Amazon. That is laughable. It's a worthless box set and no one would actually pay $82 for it.
You're spending a ton of money to make a few dollars.

No. You're spending a ton of money, to lose money when you try to sell on eBay. My overall mark up is 100% and up.
$82.20 is the new price (sealed). $16.00 is the used price + $3.99 S&H.
$10.00 would be half what it cost to buy it used on Amazon. And almost 200% mark up for me. Win/Win.

You paid $3.50 for it and may sell it for $10. That's a gross profit of $6.50, but your net profit is actually less than that once you factor in other costs such as shipping, driving to the post office, gasoline used, etc.
Even assuming the gross profit of $6.50 alone seems not worth it. A minimum wage job flipping burgers pays more than $6.50 per hour, and I bet you spend at least an hour selling this thing in the process of listing it online to packaging it to driving to the post office, etc.
Also another consideration is that I bet you don't actually end up successfully selling every dvd that you list. So those unsold dvds end up a complete loss and drive your $6.50 gross profit from the one that does sell down even further.
Honestly I am not seeing how you make money doing this at all. Big chain stores like Wal-Mart can have very low profit margins and be successful because they sell in massive bulk and so lots of little profits add up to one big profit, but Wal-Mart you are not. Every single small business that has tried to copy Wal-Mart's plan has failed miserably.

It's not about "luck". It's about me fucking you up if you try to rip me off.
And that "meeting in a public place" advice is silly (if not dangerous). Do you think people who will crack your skull open and take your money are concerned if they are in a public place? Wake up.

Meeting a stranger is always going to be dangerous, but not meeting in a public place is significantly more dangerous. Sure, some psychopaths aren't going to be dissuaded meeting in a public place, but most will be. It's about the odds, which you obviously don't comprehend. What you're saying is like when people say they don't wear a seat belt because a few people still die despite wearing a seat belt. It's about the odds. Sure, you can still die wearing a seat belt, but you're significantly less likely to die if you wear a seat belt.

There's a coffee shop in my neighborhood with a great parking lot and meeting area that just happens to be right next to a police station that's perfect for Craigslist meetings.

You also run the risk of someone meeting you at your house and saying, "Hmm, if he's selling me this, I bet he stores a lot of shit here" and making a note for later.
