re: Star Wars

Yea...the one I have is this....

....and the others are these with the exception of "The Clone Wars"...

I came close to buying this but still unsure of the quality, content and overall reviews....

That addition of "Nooooo" to the end of Return of the Jedi was the deciding factor in me not upgrading to the Blu-ray's. I don't like other changes but one like that where Lucas had to have known it would irritate fans just pissed me off. I still have my 2004 DVD set and my recordings on VHS from the airing of the trilogy on USA back in the day. Other than that the only Star Wars I own is Revenge of the Sith on DVD. I never bought the first two prequels.

I finally got around to watching the Despecialized editions in the week leading up to the new release. The huge change for me was Han shooting first. That really solidified the character of Han pretty early on in the film. Told us just what kind of guy he was. It also made his eventual hero turn all the better. That was completely ruined by Lucas' dicking around with the film.

Harmy has a page on Facebook. Just look up Despecialized Star Wars. If you click "About" on that page, he clearly lays out how to make your own copy.

True, but if someone had a copy/could burn a copy, and was in the Christmas spirit to PM me, I would be happy to reward them for their effort. I'm too technologically challenged to do this on my own.

I'm going to go through it. I'm fairly certain I'm technologically capable (though that'll depend on my software), it's just probably going to be a bit of a pain going through with it . I'll look into it. That and the LPCM mono T1, which I'll have to track down through the forums over at OT.com. Well, that and a bajillion Hong Kong films. It's fascinating to me that some fans who receive no profit or reward for this kind of stuff are willing to do it, whereas the filmmakers and studios are so obtuse.

I know we are not suppose to discuss this stuff here and this is the last thing I will probably say on the subject. These are huge files. SW alone is 17gb. Since I don't have a BD burner and didn't want to downconvert them to DL DVD I ended up transferring them to my PS3 via the PS3 media server. Looks awesome uncompressed on a my 65" panny plasma.

Have you read through the dedicated posts on OT.com? There are AVCHD files available that fit perfectly on a DVD9...

I know there are other versions available but I like the bigger MKV file. It's been awhile since I got them. Is there an newer version beyond the 2.5 version and 2.0 of V and VI?

re: Star Wars

Wow, that "despecialized" set is amazing. One thing I love about it is that they took it easy on the logos and other stuff on the back of each case. I don't like cover art that is dedicated to reproducing every little element that would be on an official case - even pointless things like UPC codes, the proof of purchase, and the copy protection logo.

My brother is studying law and currently working a case for a guy who's in serious legal trouble for torrenting a film. Not encouraging .

I so wish I could download the trilogy, but I am scared to death I could get in trouble for it.

re: Star Wars

Disney should just pay Harmy for his work and officially release his edits as their own.

Harmy is good, but he's not THAT good. He's still working with sub-par materials. That's part of the reason Lucasfilm doesn't give a flying 'f' that these are out there. These things need to be done right. Besides, if someone is going to get paid for his work, then it should be Mike Verta.

re: Star Wars

Okay, so I guess I need to continue that post in a way that I originally found redundant and self-evident...

Or just hire him as an acknowledgement of his work and put him alongside their editors and engineers. If nothing else, it would show the rest of us that there's an unofficial fan seal of approval on whatever they put out as "original". There's no denying that with the success of TFA that Harmy's Despecialized editions have garnered more attention than ever.

Harmy's already got a job:
http://www.techhive.com/article/2881...nversions.html
Feb 9, 2015 - NanoTech Entertainment said Monday that it had hired Petr Harmy, who created the Star Wars Despecialized Edition remastered trilogy, to help it convert existing movies into 4K resolution for its UltraFlix 4K streaming service.
As much as I appreciate the work he's done, I really don't need a fan restorer's "seal of approval" on any Star Wars restoration. There's going to be about a billion eyeballs on any restoration that's released.

re: Star Wars

Also--and I appreciate Harmy's work, too--I doubt Disney (who has been notoriously strict about copyright and piracy) would want to publicly reward someone who has promoted illegal online distribution of their properties. It's one thing to look the other way to avoid alienating a large portion of your potential customers, but it's a different thing to give Harmy a seal of approval.

re: Star Wars

Well, Disney better get on it. People keep asking me for my copies. I know I could never distribute enough to put a dent in sales, but people I know aren't buying either... I gladly would.

2017 for the 40th & EpVIII makes a lot of sense to me.

But doesn't 2016 for the 39th & EpVII sound even better?
