Different Blu-ray from Alliance, one that's reportedly 1080p and contains 95% of the special features from the two-disc DVD. I just placed an order for this today as well.

Correct. The only special features missing are those outdated text-style extras anyway, and you can get it for approximately $19 shipped from http://www.cdplus.com/shop/default.a...e=065935837787. It has DTS-HD Master Audio as well. All of this makes it sound like an all around winner of a release.

Hopefully CDPlus is good. Their pricing is the main reason I decided to order Amelie now and the Scream Trilogy set ($24.50).

Just checked, there are two listings for Amelie Blu-Ray at Amazon.ca, how do I know which one is the better one?

Loose Screws arrived here in Canada last week. Terrific release from Severin. So not much new of interest for me. Eventually I will get the Criterion release of Crumb, though.

http://www.amazon.ca/amelie-Blu-ray/...1315280&sr=8-4 Shipping from Amazon.ca is ridiculous though. Might want to get it from Axelmusic instead: http://www.axelmusic.com/productDetails/065935837787 |

Anyway, shipping from Amazon.ca is about $10 for one movie (I'm not sure how much it is per each additional) so you may not want to order it there. Not sure. Anyway, I have several Canadian Blu-ray's. Here are some one the ones I would definitely suggest considering: The Faculty (1080p, finally available in anamorphic equivalent -- the DVD was non-anamorphic. No bonus features - but the DVD never had any! Great Robert Rodriguez flick) Mimic (same as above on all counts, only this is Guillermo Del Toro) Good Will Hunting (also finally anamorphic, 1080p -- even though the box incorrectly lists 1080i. This is only missing the commentary track). From Dusk Till Dawn - DVD wasn't anamorphic. This loses all the bonus materials, which is lame, but it is still a worthwhile upgrade in PQ/AQ.) Scream Trilogy -- These may be 1080i, not sure yet, but they are all in the correct aspect ratio and Scream has never been available before in the US in an anamorphic presentation) |

It's the listing with no picture and practically no information. I think it lists the release date correctly.

Date Night
WOULD get Scream Trilogy from Canada as I love the series but keep feeling there may be an eventual US Blu ray box set release due to the upcoming Scream 4 (you'd would feel they'd want to capitalize on the opportunity). But I've been hearing all this news about Disney Selling Miramax or someone else other than the Weinsteins having the rights for Scream 1-3 so a release would depend on the company which holds the rights. This is why I'm concerned its possible the U.S may not see a Blu Ray Scream Trilogy Release even after Scream 4 is released (or at least not for a long while). Imean this sort of thing has occured before. For Example: RUSH HOUR 3 gets blu ray release, but 1 and 2 have yet to be released on Blu Ray. Indiana Jones 4 gets a blu ray release, but the original trilogy doesn't. I really hope the same doesn't occur for the Scream Trilogy =[ Do you think its better to buy this Canadian Import or just hold out in hopes all this company news won't affect a hopefully INEVITABLE release in the U.S???? ALSO people are debating on whether this Scream Trilogy Blu Ray release is 1080i or 1080P...according to blu-ray.com it says 1080P but I'm not sure still does anyone know for sure?????? (if you want to see it yourself go to blu-ray.com and click the Canada flag which will take you to Canadian releases, type Scream in the search box and it will take you to the blu ray trilogy area) |

Re: What Blu-ray Discs Are You Getting on August 10, 2010?
Miramax...hmmm...I really hope the trilogy doesn't enter a sort of no release limbo like Rush Hour and Indiana Jones. I keep hearing people say they'll probably release it around April when Scream 4 is released in theaters. I really wish this could be true.
Supposedly the Scream Trilogy is getting is a blu ray release in the U.K around Christmas time. But the U.S still has nothing...not even an announcement saying its ahead in the future somewhere and not in a limbo state =/ (What I wonder is how can they have Blu ray releases in other countries and not the U.S. If this whole company issue is going on then wouldnt the other countries be affected as well?) |
Re: What Blu-ray Discs Are You Getting on August 10, 2010?
Looks like a rental week for me.

Thanks for the help GenP, I will definitely get this version of Amelie. I don't like Good Will at all, way too sappy for me, & Del Toro said he recorded a commentary for a super-special edition of Mimic so I'll hold off on that. But I didn't know the Faculty was released in Canada, I haven't seen that film since the theater but I remember liking it so I will definitely get that also. Just have to decide where else to get it to avoid that high Amazon shipping cost.
Looking at your DVDAf, I see that you own the 2-Disc Blade II DVD. The Blu-ray is supposed to have pretty good PQ/AQ but lacks the extras. You could pick this up for $10 and do the same thing I'm doing with Cold Mountain and Trainspotting. Just a suggestion. DO NOT buy Blade though -- it is not in the correct aspect ratio (which makes that release a total joke). Alliance can be VERY hit and miss so it's generally good to do some research (or listen to some friendly advice). EDIT: The Cell is also a title you could upgrade and do this for. I doubt it will hit Blu-ray in the US anytime soon at all, and it's supposed to sport very good PQ/AQ (just no extras). That's another $10 title. Swingers can be upgraded this way as well but is closer to $20. I want the Swingers Blu-ray in my collection at some point, but not at that high a price... I'll wait for it to hit $10 myself. |
