Got the email with the same updated dates. Joy! Something to watch on Christmas Day with the family!

There is a printed component that is a bit delayed, there are no problems with the discs. Rest easy.

on the plus side, they sent me another e-mail saying that they are not charging me for shipping 3.08 pounds, about $5.00 USD because of "inconvenience of delay", so there's that.

I noticed that they split my order, so I won't have to wait for Battle Royale's release for Inception to ship. Inception will ship separately on release day (a week earlier) and the shipping stayed the same.

Did you just order Battle Royale, or are there other items in your order? I haven't received this second message yet

Re: Battle Royale (Arrow Releasing)--October 2010?

Pre-ordered.

I have a question though.

Are most of Arrow's BR's region free?

There are quite a few Arrow releases I'd like to pick up, and to my knowledge, I can't seem to find anywhere where there catalog tells whether a certain movie is region free or not.

A list of the region free Arrow releases would be nice. I wanted to pick up both Dawn and Day of the Dead.

This site has a list of Blu-rays released in Region B and what their region coding status is:
http://bluray.liesinc.net/index.php?region=b

You can filter by studio, but there isn't much for Arrow there.

Pretty sure Departures and The Smurfs are their only B locked titles, and everything else is playable in region A.

All of the Arrow Video releases are region free:

Battle Royale
Deep Red
Bay of Blood
Dawn of the Dead
Day of the Dead
Caligula
Inferno
City of the Living Dead

Each contains 1 PAL DVD in the package, though. 2 in the case of Dawn.

Re: Battle Royale (Arrow Releasing)--October 2010?

I just pre-ordered this and it shows my estimated delivery date as "20 Dec 2010 - 29 Dec 2010". Would like to get it before Christmas but if not, oh well. Can't wait to watch this in HD.

Has anyone emailed Amazon and inquired about this?

Re: Battle Royale (Arrow Releasing)--October 2010?

Has anyone tried canceling an order with Arrow to reorder with Amazon? I have been trying for over a month to cancel with Arrow and my Visa card has also tried and they will not reply to our attempts.

Re: Battle Royale (Arrow Releasing)--October 2010?

Since the only other copy of this movie I ever owned was a pirated one, I think I'll be pretty satisfied with what I can get. It's always struck me as a movie that was going to be very limited in terms of how good it can look...

Note that the "not-edge-enhancement" effect that was noticed in that post is revealed later in the thread to be chromatic aberration caused by the lenses used when shooting the film:

Does it look better than the Tartan NTSC DVD?

Yes.

Therefore I don't give a shit and I want my hands on this Blu-ray right now.

kind of like the HK flicks we grew up with...we just put up with it cuz...well...it is what it is...at least in terms of the care for the original prints.

Re: Battle Royale (Arrow Releasing)--October 2010?

The brief (2D) glimpses I've seen of the 3D version suggest a big improvement -- the hazy, muddy look characterizing all previous releases seems to be gone -- but I've assumed since the beginning that Arrow would have to make do with older materials, perhaps even dating back to 2001. That would hardly be abnormal for Western BDs of Japanese films: think Shout's Audition with the reel changeover marks, or Classic Media's Gojira which wasn't up to the already weak standards of the Japanese release. It'll be interesting to see if Anchor Bay or Toei (or even Arrow themselves, who recently licensed the 3D version) will do a release of the original version from whatever master was used for the new one, and to compare that with what we've gotten so far.

I'm hoping my copy of the full set arrives in the next week or so. Fingers crossed!

Re: Battle Royale (Arrow Releasing)--October 2010?

Didn't post that link to talk anyone out of buying the UK BD.

Just posted it because it was the first tidbit about the BD and thought folks would want to see it.

I appreciated the link. The screencaps are nice, so we can see for ourselves, and checking the rest of the thread provided more info on the transfer.

Our (Shout) transfer of AUDITION was a new one done last year from the inter-negative which was flown over from Japan, hence the reel marks, as the inter-negative is used to make film prints.
