Re: "The Return of the Living Dead" BD 9/14
I was in a store this morning that had it out early (not Walmart though). I passed getting it though. It would be the 4th time buying this film so I will not pick up the Blu-Ray until its around the $12 or less range.

Here's a review. They gave it a solid PQ review, but I'm going to wait on screenshots.
Here's another review that's quite enthusiastic about the transfer:
Here's another review that's quite enthusiastic about the transfer:
The movie is presented in a 1080p high definition presentation in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio. While this may be a bit of a cultish schlocker of a film, the transfer is anything but. Clean and free of defects or blemishes, the transfer also has a natural level of grain - minimal to non-existent in virtually all shots, except a few rare occasions. Colors are wonderfully reproduced in this transfer, with rich hues and vibrant tones, bringing the stylish comic book look to life like never before. Whether it's the blue of the nighttime shots or the red of the bloody mess that constantly accompanies the film, you will love how faithful the transfer renders the colors. Solid black level give the image depth and the high definition of the transfer allows you to view details and read textures in the image that have been impossible to spot before. In fact, it is so detailed that you can read the memos on the office wall and take a pretty good look at the pin-up girls in the background.

The full-size images are PNGs snapped from a Blu-ray rip via MPC-HT.
If you want a point of comparison, this is a JPEG snapped from A Nightmare on Elm St.. I know they're two different movies, but still... Plus Return of the Living Dead had a larger budget.

I watched II on netflix over the weekend, and I actually winced quite a few times (It was so bad, it felt like a "Meet the Spartans" type movie). I enjoyed it when it first came out on VHS, but now...

I did notice 2 things in the screenshots.
1. Linnea's right eye is only clearly visible in one screencap, when enlarged. The other 2 have a unfocused/fuzzy look. BD wins rather easily there, IMO.
2. Oddity: Where's the hole in the ceiling from the 2002 DVD to the left above Mohawk's head, on the 2007 DVD & the Blu-ray? Looks like slightly different framing.
