Is it still set in LA (or whatever city) and doesn't feature Melissa George?

Yeah according to the press release:
Nearly a year has passed since the population of Barrow, Alaska was decimated by a vicious clan of vampires during its annual 30 days of night. Terrorized by nightmares and haunted by her husband's murder, sole survivor Stella (Kiele Sanchez) has been trying desperately to expose the vampire threat to the world. When she's unexpectedly recruited by three other vampire attack victims, Stella sets out to reap vengeance upon Lillith, the vampire queen responsible for the Alaskan bloodbath. Now, these vampire hunters must venture into L.A.'s dark and dangerous underbelly to try and stop the savage evil that is preparing to strike once again in this pulse-pounding thriller based on the second book in the popular graphic novel series created by Steve Niles.

That sounds rather lame. I would have preferred another story set in another isolated location. Sure that still would have meant no Melissa George but that plot summary sounds very generic.
And since when was Stella's husband murdered?
And the vampire queen aspect seems like a slap in the face of the feral pack of dogs nature the vampires exibited in the last movie.

Yeah, it's the mix of vampires, snow, and isolation that made the paint-by-numbers nature of 30 Days of Night a success, so taking them into the urban jungle for a revenge story doesn't sound all that appealing. More like a rehash of Blade.

Exactly what I was thinking. Is that really the same direction that the second book in the series takes?

When you need a sequel...go to Los Angeles.
Since we don't have any of the original actors, just call it a different movie. Shit, this doesn't even have to be a sequel if you think about it.

Ahhh. I didn't know this was a trilogy. So, we have another one coming out (probably later this year) to be terrified from.

Too bad I wasn't really much of a fan of Dark Days (The Comic).

Sucks they couldn't get Melissa George on. Just thought it was a little funny in the trailer to see what looked like a re-shoot of the first film's finale but with the new lead.

It doesn't look as terrible as I expected but it also doesn't look good.
Is that really Kiele Sanchez? Doesn't look like her. And what's up with the monotone delivery? I also don't like that the vampires seem like your typical vamps (guys and girls chilling around amidst the humans) rather than the feral pack of dogs approach from the last movie. What made the premise of the previous film plausible was how they survived on the fringes of society and let no one survive so no one would know of their existence.
