FINALLY!!!! Ridley Scott's 1492!!!! Region B Only
Blu-ray.com reporting:
Scott's 1492 Blu-ray Coming Up
Blu-ray MoviesMore Sir Ridley news from France: according to information from French retailers, the SPHE/TF1 home video joint venture will release the Christopher Columbus biopic 1492: Conquest of Paradise on Blu-ray on October 6 (the same day as the Alien Anthology and one week before Robin Hood). There are no edition details available at this time.
About damn time. Here's to hoping Scott oversees this one with a longer cut.

Not sure why he'd oversee a French exclusive release. TF1 is also hit or miss when it comes to region locking titles - not sure how they determine which ones they lock, but I guess we shall see.

Sorry, I didn't mean that he oversee the French release I just meant in he oversee the HD transfer in general. I'm also guessing we should hopefully see a domestic release around the same time.

it maybe only a difference of 2 minutes but the international cut of the movie is better (and more violent) than the US PG-13 rated version. I'm hoping that if a US release will at least be the 156min version.

yeah 'in general' - and he slips a cog by the flaws that appeared on the bluray of 'Gladiator'

re: FINALLY!!!! Ridley Scott's 1492!!!! Region B Only
This blu-ray is a huge, huge improvement over any previous DVD versions - like a massive upgrade! I wasn't expecting it to be this good. The video quality is so good for a movie from the early 90s - crisp, bright, brilliant and clear, almost three-dimensional! The video quality only gets less points for sometimes having a tiny touch of grainy horizontal lines during dimly lit scenes. But the well-lit scenes are just amazing. The audio is excellent as well. I was expecting something bad after everyone complaining that the audio is not 5.1, but the English DTS-HD sounded just great - perfectly mixed, good audio separation - just a non-problematic audio soundtrack, and also much better sounding than my previous DVD. The extras is just one long interesting "making-of".
The French subtitles are not forced but you have to manually play English subtitles during any French text that appears on the screen if you want to know the translation, which mainly just applies to the opening text.
Great quality blu-ray. If you love the movie, definitely buy this French.

Thanks for your review of this. Looks like I'm getting the French release now. Bummed there's no Ridley Scott commentary - I think that's a first.

Never saw it. Might get it if I have other stuff to order from France at some point, or I'll hold out for a UK release if not US.
