The best part is that neither is a digibook.

In my initial post, I stated that there was no news on any new extras.

Either way, are the extras on those discs you mentioned in HD?
On Robin Hood, the Warner Night at the Movies featurette and the two cartoons were in HD, and on Gigi and An American In Paris the documentaries were in HD, so that will hopefully be the case with these two releases.

I held off getting the 3 disc Falcon set, so I hope everything makes it over. I would be very interested in that. Falcon is one of my favorites.

In for The Maltese Falcon whenever it falls within my price range. Was never a big fan of "Sierra Madre", though. While the cast (especially Bogie) did an excellent job, I didn't like how the film ended. Still, if it gets cheap, I'll probably pick it up.

I'm looking forward to seeing The Maltese Falcon in HD !! Thank God , and three cheers for the guys and gals at Warner Bros those people keep churning out the classics we know , love and want on Blu Ray!

What classic back catalogue titles are next for the Warner Bros High Definition treatment?

I love Maltese Falcon, and ToSM is one of my favorite movies of all time.

The DVDs certainly have much superior art, but maybe they didn't want to confuse people:

I prefer the BD art for Falcon to the DVD art, but the DVD art to the BD art for Treasure.

Extras, from Blu-ray.com, look to be the same as the DVDs. No dice on '31 and '36 versions of Falcon, as expected. Guess I'll have to hold onto my DVD.

Special features include:

The Maltese Falcon

* Commentary by Bogart Biographer Eric Lax
* Featurette: The Maltese Falcon: One Magnificent Bird
* Breakdowns of 1941: Studio Blooper Reel
* Makeup tests
* Becoming Attractions: The Trailers of Humphrey Bogart
* Warner Night at the Movies 1941 – Short Subjects Gallery:
o Newsreel
o Musical Short: The Gay Parisian
o Two Classic Cartoons:
+ Hiawatha's Rabbit Hunt
+ Meet John Doughboy
* Trailers
o The Maltese Falcon
o Sergeant York
o Satan Met a Lady (1936 previous Falcon movie adaptation)
* Audio-Only Bonus: Three radio show adaptations – two featuring the movie's original stars, plus another starring Edward G. Robinson

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre

* Commentary by Bogart biographer Eric Lax
* Featurette: Discovering Treasure: The Story of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
* Feature-length documentary profile: John Huston
* Outtakes
* Classic Cartoon: 8 Ball Bunny
* Warner Night at the Movies 1948 – Short Subjects Gallery:
o Newsreel
o Joe McDoakes Comedy Short: So You Want to Be a Detective
o Classic Cartoon: Hot Cross Bunny
* Trailers:
o The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
o Key Largo
* Audio-Only Bonus: Radio show adaptation featuring the movie's original stars

Hard to say since they sometimes do use the same art

but

EDIT: Obviously Music Man is a slightly different case because it hadn't been reissued on SD with original poster art like the other two.

I was looking at the original poster art for The Maltese Falcon..I admit...they're not exactly great pieces. They're ok....

This is the better looking one but I REALLY get annoy w/ how Bogart's lips look...it's weird

The second poster's Bogie looks like it was lifted from High Sierra (!).

I don't really care about the 2 previous versions missing, as I would never, ever watch them. I would have preferred they included the other 4 Bogart films from the Signature Collection 2. This reminds me of the Brando DVD box set when Mutiny On The Bounty was later released on HD DVD.

The Maltese Falcon disappeared from my Amazon cart and the listing is no longer there. Odd.

I wouldn't read too much into it as Amazon has been having cart and page view issues for a couple of days.

It's still there.

Go figure. Right now, Amazon has the Maltese Falcon for $17.49 but The Treasure of Sierra Madre is $18.99. I would thank you'd charge the higher price for the Falcon.

Blu-ray.com review of The Maltese Falcon
According to the reviewer, the image quality, while quite good, is a notch below some of WB's other restoration jobs.

Re: The Maltese Falcon & Treasure of the Sierra Madre: 10/5/10

I'm very disappointed in the degradation of the artwork. While the earlier versions were digipacks, they were quite thoughtfully done, and a pleasure to handle, especially when compared to the slapdash covers of the Blu-rays.

While PQ and AQ are definitely more important to me than artwork, I may hold out until I can get these for $10 on account of the poor presentations.

I like both films alot, but prefer Treasure.... So I'm glad it appears to have gotten the better transfer. It's $17.49 on Amazon. I think I'll go ahead and preorder now. It doesn't look like Best Buy will be carrying either of these films in store.

I really wish they'd include the other versions of Maltese Falcon on the BD. Granted...the Bogie one is the better one...but it's great to see how the others failed (THOUGH some aspects ARE enjoyable in them). Alas...

The product page for Maltese Falcon says store pickup is "coming soon."
