It's a UK version, of course the cover is bad.

Re: Predator: Ultimate Hunter Edition -- June 29, 2010

To this day the first one with Arnold & Co is the best of the lot. The second..wasn't crazy about at all. The Alien vs Predator got it back to more suspense and action with a decent story which turned out better the Predator 2...which to me still sucks. AvP:Requiem....can't say to this day but parts I can "actually see" makes it ok. The idea of a "Ultimate Hunter Predator" going after the cross breed one was good idea...just cannot see a freaking thing. And Predators was pretty good going back to the roots of the very first one.

As to this "Collection", I'll skip it...even it goes under $10. Second as some might suspect and commented on various other forums; why the 2-Movie Collection when you've got to know a 3-Movie Collection...Predator, Predator 2 and Predators...is around the corner.

I bet the 3D version will have a nice new transfer and the 2D version will be the same crap again (maybe even the same disc). Or at best, they'll use the original BD's transfer.

AvP was horribly mediocre and dull. There was nothing decent about it. The one after that was even worse. Predators, one that I do like, tries so damn hard to get the same dynamic that Predator had that it literally lifts moments and narrative beats out of it. It had a really good idea in there and has some neat stuff but it just lacks power. I wouldn't mind a sequel to it but it really just needs to be it's own beast.

Re: Predator: Ultimate Hunter Edition -- June 29, 2010

Predator 2 was okay, but sort of flaccid. Predators was an improvement, but still kind of forgettable.

Aliens vs Predator could have been great, but they went in all of the wrong directions with it. If they would have adapted the original Aliens vs Predator comic book series from Dark Horse, it would have been a great entry in both franchises. (I sort of remember reading a script online that more or less adapted that book; not sure if it was an official script or a fan creation.)

At the end of the day, I think Predator is kind of a hard concept to franchise. It made a great one-off movie, but any sequel is either going to suffer from just rehashing the original, or moving so far away from the concept that it becomes something else.

I'll wait and see the final word. I kept the original Blu-ray release, because it actually looks pretty good. I hope they don't fuck it up ad release the scrubbed version with the extras. That would make no sense.

I think 2 is really good, but agree on the AVP films. Limp dick entries. It would have been too expensive to adapt the Dark Horse story then and now.

It was official. Peter Briggs wrote it. He also wrote the over ambitious Freddy versus Jason script that actually had Mrs. Voorhes as one of the Elm Street parents that killed Freddy. Although the actual fight between them was pretty much an afterthought, the overall story was very good and found a plausible way to not only for those two to team up but also give a definitive conclusion to both franchises.

Well to each their own i guess. I'm not saying by any means it's in the same league say Aliens (1986) but it beats the pants of Predator 2. It's the first one where we saw any real battle of AVP. The part with the Alien stabbing the first Predator in the back and lifting him was pretty good followed by the match with the other. I didn't think the "Aztec History" of the War/Hunt of AVP wasn't bad. Yes it could've been better.

As to the future movie wise...there are two options. Follow up to AVP:Requiem where at the end the Goverment has hold of the Predator Shoulder Cannon. Or in the case of Predators where Royce & Co. take control of the hunting grounds and face the possibilty of more Predators coming.

The problem with AvP is that it's not canon now.

A sequel to Predators would be cool just cuz it ended in a "we're fucked" kind of scenario.

So what am I supposed to buy? Should I wait? I have the DVD, but wanted to upgrade to blue ray - looks like the one this thread is about is awful? Too much noise reduction? So is there something coming out later?

What you want is the older Blu-ray, before it was "remastered." This one:

http://www.amazon.com/Predator-Blu-r...dp/B0012GVKW8/

The disc has issues, but it's better than the Ultimate Hunter Edition.

If the talk of a 3D conversion is true, it will probably be based on the Ultimate Hunter disc, because grain doesn't convert well to 3D.

So if I have the DVD set and an upconverting player, does it make sense to even buy it on Blu-ray?

Actually, the 3D conversion of "Top Gun" retains the original film grain while the 2D Blu-Ray and HD-DVD had the grain cleaned up. (The color scheme in the 3D version was also messed with however.) So there's at least a chance "Predator" may be unharmed, though I'm sick of all these 3D conversions while REAL 3D movies remain unreleased.

Im not aware of any issues on this version, but I can secondd the recommendation. This blu ray, with grain, looks beautiful on my 42 LCD. Trust me, your not missing out on the special features on the ultimate hunter edition. They suck anyways.

The video quality on the original Blu-ray is superior to the DVD, but keep the DVD for the bonus features. You can get the original Blu-ray for less than $10 if you shop around. No reason not to buy it.

Yesasia lists this for the OOP Korean SE:

Disc2
*Deleted Scene
*Documentary "If It Bleeds, We Can Kill It"
*Inside the Predator - 7 Featurettes
*Outtakes - 3 Segments
*Predator "Red Suit" Special Effects - 3 Segments
*Predator Camouflage Tests - 2 Segments
*Still Gallery
*Predator Profile
*3 Easter Eggs

Amazon lists this for the US Collector's Edition (which I think I also have, lol)

Commentary by John McTiernan
Text commentary by film journalist/historian Eric Lichtenfield

"If It Bleeds, We Can Kill It: The Making of Predator" documentary
Inside the Predator: seven featurettes

So... looks like they're basically the same? The Korean one came out 2 years before the US one - maybe that's why I have it? I can't remember.

Release date is 12/17/2013:

There's still some active speculation about whether this will be a new transfer or not for both the 3D and 2D.
