I'll keep my good DVD SE, and I'll get the 1st BD of the film. If that's the best I can get..well....guess that's the best I'll get.

The commentary's the same one with McTiernan from the last DVD set. There are hours of extras, and it's a really outstanding special edition (especially for a film from 1986; there's more behind-the-scenes footage on this disc than just about any catalog title from the era I can think of off the top of my head), but if you already have the original Blu-ray and the two-disc DVD set, you've got the best of it.

As you said that, I just pictured Kanye West covering all of the Beatles songs. That would be a nightmare!

....also..I need to watch the features on the DVD SE. I forgot how much there was in it.

haha, what if I send it to you for free? I thought you bought it, my bad...

Is there anyone in here that was aware of the DNR issue, bought the blu-ray, and didn't like it?

Good to know. I knew my "5 hours of new content" was wrong, but just how much is new? Are the new features good enough for a rental in your opinion? For me, something worth renting is worth $5 to own forever, even if I never watch the film part of the package.

I'd take that deal.

Then cash the check and trade the Blu-Ray in somewhere for store credit.

...Yeah, you can add me to the list of people who didn't buy this release. I have the old Blu-Ray, and that's fine for me.

yeah...lol. This film means a lot to me. It's a film I grew up with from when I was three to now. It's immensely enjoyable and a staple genre piece. As an adult and film student, I see better now it's value in film. Damn you, Stan Winston. I'll always miss you.

Re: Predator: Ultimate Hunter Edition -- June 29, 2010

It's a film I grew up with during my earlier years as well. My friend and I used to go into the woods when we were five, and we'd pretend we were hunting Predators and Aliens. I'm truly disappointed in the screens that I've seen, but they look SO bad, I can't help but find the time to watch the latest release this weekend. I'm too curious for my own good. A videophile such as myself finds a certain appeal, in a hilarious but so tragic it's almost not funny at all, sort of way. I... I just can't NOT watch this. One would be hard pressed to peel their eyes away from something they might never see in their lives again, such as a train wreck. Predator seems to be the worst example (based on screen caps) on the format to date, and my eyes are at this very moment glued to that train wreck, and I won't be satisfied until I've seen it with my own eyes.

I hate to admit that i bought it and that I'm anxious to watch it... I just want it to be known that it's definitely not for the reasons that many other people have posted along the lines of, "I think it looks better!" or "I think it looks fine!"

Re: Predator: Ultimate Hunter Edition -- June 29, 2010

...and you still support the travesty it is for Fox. I at the most would rent it...and that's really pushing it cuz it's in my top 10 of action films.

on a separate note: Wow...the Predator DVD SE has a shit ton of features. Just like Adam Tyner said...I've never seen (or remember) this much stuff off a film of that time. Wow.

Re: Predator: Ultimate Hunter Edition -- June 29, 2010

I dig Predator... But, I don't LOVE it. So, regardless, I have no intention of picking this up and will keep the DVD. I just wanted to post that this has been one hell of an entertaining thread to read.

My only concern here, and I think it was mentioned on one of the pages, is the worry that I have for the Alien franchise on Blu now...

The screenshot of Arnold jumping the waterfall looks like that in all vhs, dvd, and blu-ray editions of the movie, so I don't think it's fair to add it.

i'm glad more and more are seeing how bad this automated dnr crap ruins films. i still get sick just thinking about how badly someone botched dark city on bd. and the worse thing of all is it will probably never get another release... unlike predator.

It's always looked extremely soft and incredibly grainy, but the reason I included it is that Fox dialed the DNR even higher on that shot, and that leaves it looking more ridiculous than almost anything else in the movie. It's a shot that never looked good, but now it's a smeary oil painting.

I think The Longest Day is an even worse case of overzealous DNR, personally. I know I'm in the minority, but I found the DNR throughout Flash Gordon to be more distracting on average than this. Predator at its worst is about as abysmal as it gets, though. (Well, except for that VHS-sourced Blu-ray of Gulliver's Travels....that's not gonna be topped anytime soon.)

Amazon dropped the price to $13.99 which moves this up to the #12 position. Just awesome. More sales = a "success" for Fox = more Waxy movies in the future.

Ugh, I can't believe they fucked this up so bad. At this point I will never own Predator 1 on Blu.
