Re: Wanting other catalog Bonds instead of this
This release was planned all along, and because of the rights ownership issues, it's separate from the rest of the series. This wasn't done at the expense of giving us anything else.

Re: The movie is weak/bad
Personally, I thought Quantum of Solace did the best job yet of any Bond movie of approximating the kind of story and pacing of Ian Fleming's original novels. A consortium of criminals engineers a coup for the express purpose of seizing control of a very important natural resource? That's very Fleming-esque. It may lack the sex appeal of, say, robbing Fort Knox, but the plot still revolves around someone hiding his sinister plot behind the masquerade of being a "good guy." Fleming's novels were also meant to be read on a train ride, he once remarked, and I think the pace of this film did a great job of keeping things moving.

I enjoyed both CR & QoS but count me out for the DD on this one. The current releases are both great so I don't see any real reason to DD.

I knew this was coming but still decided to buy the original release some months ago. I'm happy enough with that.

I now wish this had been the theme song.

Quantum of Solace is a flawed but tight, ruthless revenge actioner.

Casino Royale is fucking AWESOME for the first two thirds. One of the worst, most disjointed third acts in recent memory.

After Casino Royale, I was expecting Quantum to get a rerelease, so I held off on it.

Was Quantum as good as Casino? No. Casino, in my opinion, is one of the top Bond films. However, I enjoyed Quantum, and I have all the other Bond films, so I'll gladly pick this one up.

Question: Why has MGM's problems stalled the release of the remaining Bonds? Doesn't FOX own the license?

Fox has the rights to press, package, distribute and market MGM titles, but the decision of what gets to be mastered and released to Fox in order do all that still resides with MGM.

Re: Quantum of Solace: Definitive Edition >>> 7/28

Aside from MGM's financial issues, it makes much better business sense to release the rest of the Bond films when the new film hits theaters. Many catalog titles need some sort of tie-in/new marketing push to be released. If I were MGM, I wouldn't release them either until Craig's 3rd film shows up.

I'll probably just keep my current 1-disc version. I don't think I like the film enough to hear the cast talk about it.

As Adboy151 already pointed out, Fox only has the distribution license--they have no control over the property.

It's also worth repeating: Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace are separate from the rest of the Bond series because they were co-produced by Columbia. Everyone needs to understand that this means those two features (until and unless Columbia sells their ownership rights to them) are not subject to the same circumstances as the rest of the series.

I hated Casino Royale... and purchased this on it's regular Blu-ray edition. Probably because it was practically free. But I still haven't seen it, and I'm not really sure what to expect other than disappointment.

It might be time to reconsider your buying habits. I would suggest, if you haven't opened Quantum of Solace yet, that you rent it or borrow someone else's to watch. This way, if you're as disappointed as you think you will be, you'll at least have a sealed copy to sell off before the new edition hits and makes it less appealing. If you've already opened it, then you should probably watch it before the new edition devalues it further in case you want to sell it.

There's even an outside chance you'll even like the movie!

Re: Quantum of Solace: Definitive Edition >>> 7/28

I like and dislike QoS in equal measures. Here is why:
Pro:
The little title cards that tell you each city. Nice that they have a bit of style in each one.
The beginning car chase. Violent and a very nice segway into the title sequence.
A liked the fact that they showed another agent, and they actually knew each other.
The rooftop chase was well handed (that fall through the glass was great).
I also love that shot in the end battle when Greene is running in slo-mo and the glass shatters. It just looks very cool.
I love the desert scenes. I thought they looked great.

Cons:
The beginning car chase. The editing was too much. It gives this idea that no one plans for a long shoot, just loads of tiny bits that happen to make a car chase.
NO James Bond baddie should not be called Dominic Greene! Sounds like an estate agent.
No villain should threaten someone into signing their utility contract. Thats what a door to door salesman does.
The "henchman" was terrible. I know he was more a secretary then henchman but he seemed more concerned about his wig and looking at guys!
I like the song as a whole but that bit when they start going all over the place is terrible.

I hope the packaging is the same as the CR edition. I also hope it goes into some depth. The recent releases don't really go into depth. Not like the releases for the earlier films.

Didn't the 2 disc SE of Casino Royale finally start dropping to around $12.99? I can wait for that price for this release of Quantum.

Re: Quantum of Solace: Definitive Edition >>> 7/28

Since there are rumors that Jesper Christensen (Mr. White) has no interest in being in the next Bond film (once they get around to it), you suppose they might edit back in the excised ending into this new release? Or would they simply use it as the opening teaser sequence of the next movie?

More importantly, will we see more Oona Chaplin footage?

I thought I read somewhere that the next Bond story would have nothing to do with Quantum. If so, then there would be no need for Jesper Christiansen's participation.

Re: Quantum of Solace: Definitive Edition >>> 7/28

I'd love to see the Austin Powers parody of Quantum of So-Much-Crap. The thing is it takes so little effort to parody that pile of manure.

Dr. Evil on his way to a secret conference held during the performance of an Opera.

Dr. Evil: Is this going to go well?

Number One: Yes Dr. Evil. Everything has been planned perfectly. We are going to secretly meet during the performance of an opera.

Scott: Oh, that's going to go well. Have people talking while an opera is going on ... what's next, meeting in the lobby of C.I.A. headquarters?

Dr. Evil: You're such a Negative Nellie, I just don't get you.

Scott: (mockingly) Hey, how many people are we going to slaughter for the water rights in the f*((*ing desert? ... Hey would you shut up, I'm trying to listen to Tosca. Have you guys ever heard of a conference call. Oh, no, let's fly a bunch of people from around the world to Austria to have a glorified conference call while we whisper. Dumb ass.

Dr. Evil: It's really just sad the negativity. Say where is my listening device.

Number One: You just go to the counter and they give you a welcoming gift that has the listening device. We tried to save and not use FedEx.

Dr. Evil: (at the counter). Hi, I'm Dr. Evil.

Pretty Babe: Yes. Dr. Evil (reaching under the gift bags to get a special bag to hand to Dr. Evil).

Patron: Hey, where is my special gift?

Pretty Babe: I'm sorry sir, you're not on the list.

Patron: What? I give thousands to this opera house and I'm not on the list. WTF? Meanwhile I've never seen baldie before, what the heck?

Dr. Evil: How would you like me to shove my special gift up Uranus.

Scott: Oh, with the Uranus jokes, what a jackass. So original.

Rumors? lol the guy came right out and said he had no intrest in doing another bond film, there is no rumor involved here at all, it came right out of his mouth.

Explaining his position, Christensen said: "Today, I admit that I regard [Casino Royale] and [Quantum of Solace] as really sh!t. All the people die in them, so two movies are enough for me."
