The Simpsons: The Complete Season 13 -- August 24, 2010
According to TVShowsOnDVD
An odd play IMO for Fox to start here on the SD seasons -- as these "teen" seasons aren't as memorable/popular/beloved/call-it-what-you-will as the first 10 or so -- but you have to start somewhere I guess.
If they ever decide go back to the previous SD seasons for BD editions, I'll be curious about the general quality of these.
The Blu-ray Disc version has the same content and extras, but fitting onto 3 discs, and presented in high-def...but still in the full-screen 1.33:1 aspect ratio (as originally broadcast). Audio formats are upped to English 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio, with options for Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital and French 5.1 Dolby Digital. English and Spanish subtitles are included on this, too. Cost is $59.99 SRP. The only bonus material mentioned at this time are Audio Commentaries on all 22 episodes.
Guest voices for this season include the likes of Pierce Brosnan, Matthew Perry, Jane Kaczmarek, Jess Harnell, music group R.E.M., George Takei, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Paul Newman, Richard Gere, Ben Stiller, Jon Lovitz, Reese Witherspoon, Wolfgang Puck, Dennis Weaver, Frank Welker, Olympia Dukakis, Russ Leatherman ("Mr. Moviefone"), music group Phish, Stan Lee, James Lipton, Robert Pinsky, Carmen Electra, Frances Sternhagen and Joe Mantegna as "Fat Tony".

Great news! I'm fine with grabbing Season 13 and up on Blu. As much as I love the first twelve seasons, and despite how often I watch 'em, they're not really something I would need to double dip on.

Since these seasons weren't in HD, I might just go with the dvd, at least it has a well done booklet with an episode guide.

The commentaries were always the best part about these. Great news, but I will be getting the DVD most likely.

Damn lot of people looking down on the blu ray version has me thinking. I'm only gonna watch this on my ps3 though. I might not make a descision until I'm @ the store.

Unless the price isn't too far out of range, I will just stick with the DVD version.

If they don't screw over the BD on packaging / inserts / etc., then I'll consider it, but for continuity's sake alone I want the DVD. Although the most recent DVD packaging for these seasons would benefit from BD's scratch protection. Maybe I'll figure out a financially viable way to own the DVD packaging but the BD discs.

And here I thought April Fool's Day was last month....
Nice one Fox...release upconverted SD video on BD and charge $10 more for it! OR we can all save money, get the DVD version, and just let our BD players do the upconversion and have it look about 99% the same....

^I agree with you, but there is some benefit, in that with the terrible DVD packaging that has been scratching discs, the protective Blu-ray coating (and, judging by season 20's BD packaging, a standard BD case) helps keep one from worrying about scratched discs.

Ditto.
Also, and as the first half of the season 20 blu-ray proved, HD doesn't do much for the 4x3 episodes.
I've been loving the packaging on the last few season sets. Nice gate-folded interiors with awesome artwork, fantastic booklets and easy to access discs that you can take out and put back in lickety-split and they're relatively thin. I wish all multi-disc sets were packaged like this. And I don't understand what people are saying about scratched discs, mine are fine.

Are these not originally animated at a higher resolution than SD?

Good to know. I assumed they were on 35mm film cells or something. In that case, I'll be buying the DVD set unless the BD is only a couple dollars more.

I have to agree with the general census going on. I bought season 20 on Blu-ray, but there was a reason for it. For the catalog season's I'm going to stick with the DVDs and save the $5...

Re: The Simpsons: The Complete Season 13 -- August 24, 2010
See, that's my dilemma. I'd rather get the DVD, since the Blu-Ray will simply be upconverted, and I'd rather save the extra money. But at the same time, I don't like the packaging for Seasons 11 and 12, since that kind of packaging is such a hassle with keeping the discs from getting scratched (I know 12 is better than 11 in that regard, but it's still not 100%, and it's just the principle of the matter)...

If the Blu-ray is only a little more than the DVD I might consider buying this otherwise I'll just get the DVD version. I still need to pick up 11, 12, and 20 but have been waiting to get 11 and 12 cheap, and haven't decided if I want to get 20 now or see if they re-release it with extras later.

To anyone who has the BD, is your booklet damaged??? I think the way the case is designed on the inside makes all booklets damaged on the bottom.
