Jeff Baker, Warner's Executive Vice President and General Manager, Theatrical Catalog stated, "As in the past, Warner Home Video is, once again, placing two of our 'event' titles on moratorium 12-18 months in advance of major re-releases." He added: "We know that it will be worth the wait, as significant content additions are being developed, and Ben-Hur, in particular, has been selected to receive the Ultimate Collectors Edition treatment, reminiscent of The Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind and Woodstock, which celebrated anniversaries in 2009."

Last year, WHV put three movies in moratorium: Caddyshack, Doctor Zhivago and The Exorcist (see blu-ray.com, August 7, 2009). The first two have already been announced on Blu-ray; the third is expected to be announced later in the year.

Note that Ben-Hur had appeared in a provisional release schedule for 2010 (see blu-ray.com, January 27).

I gave separate threads to Citizen Kane and Ben Hur so that they wouldn't be lumped together in one massive unweildy thread like with GWTW and Wizard of Oz.

Excellent news on both counts. As always, hoping both will be available shoebox/trinket-free right from the start.

+1. It's hard enough to hold on another year-and-a-half, let alone an added wait for a non-Cracker Jack edition.

I've held off on the DVD because it was foolscreen. Hopefully that's remedied in this version.

Wasn't it shot 1.37:1? How much different is that than 1.33:1? Still will be nice to have on Blu-ray if it is fully restored. I should start moving to sell my DVD copy once the title is off the shelves.

Can't say I'm surprised. Citizen Kane's 70th anniversary is next year.

I will be getting that and Ben-Hur as soon as they're released.

Most probably Digibook. Ben-Hur will be the one getting the big box edition.

i was just gonna say that. i wonder if they'll get rid of the sometimes nasty edge enhancement and maybe have some grain to the picture as well

I never really got too much into Ben Hur but I bet it will look fantastic on Blu Ray.
