Got Day.

Unsure what to make of the transfer. It's definitely cleaner than the US BD and I don't see any DNR/EE at work. I'll have to give them both a watch a bit later.

New Special Features...eh. Pilato gained a ton of weight.

Any chance you could give a list of officially what is new and what was not ported from the US release? I'm just curious, because I wonder if a couple of things were renamed for this release.

Please do. I don't think I've read someone with both in hand giving them a really good comparison yet, and would be very interested in what you find.

I got mine in about six days and it was well worth it. The packaging is very impressive and the included posters are gonna look pretty cool once I find a nice set of frames. This is now my fourth purchase of Dawn and I guess if the extended cut comes out on blu I'll pick that up. This set however will hold me over til then.

For Dawn, if I have the Ultimate Edition DVD and the US Blu-ray, what do I gain with this release?

even though you don't get the two commentary tracks on the Anchor Bay release, the FX crew commentary on the 'Day of the Dead' disc is quite entertaining in of itself.

I suspect the extras are all in PAL and your Blu Ray player can't do PAL so it just won't play them.

Are you refering to the extras on discs 2 and 3, which are DVDs? Or like me, are you refering to the extras on disc 1, which is a Blu-Ray?

Here's a list of the bonus features:
http://www.dvdoutsider.co.uk/news/09/09/12.html

Looks like the outtakes from Document of the Dead, along with "Fan of the Dead" and "Scream Greats" are the new bonus materials.

If you're wondering what the "Scream Greats" thing is, here's a review of the laserdisc:

Impulsively pulled the trigger on these two, combined with a City of the Dead pre-order for a cool little discount (fingers crossed City is Region Free too, although I can't see why it wouldn't be). Can't wait to get 'em.

The extras on the disc 1 blu ray are probably in standard def PAL, even though they are on the Blu, in which case that explains why they won't play for you.

Then why did the extras on disc 1 (Blu-Ray) of Arrow's Day of the Dead play for me just fine?

@Lastdaysofrain: Why would Arrow make the extras on disc 1 (A blu-ray and the only blu-ray in the set) of Dawn PAL-encoded and NOT make the extras on disc 1 (A blu-ray and the only blu-ray in the set) of Day PAL-encoded? Can you answer that question?

Why don't you ask Arrow directly?
http://www.arrowfilms.co.uk/index.php?category_id=3

As for why one release of a film would be one way and the other would be another...I mean, studios do inconsistent things all the time. I'm not arguing about whether or not the extras are PAL on either or both (I have no idea), but just because it'd make sense for a company to treat two recent releases of films in the same series the same way doesn't mean they would.

City is a Blue Undergound title here in the USA while Dawn/Day are Anchor Bay. So it's possible it might be Region locked...but I think Arrow is getting around these region codings somehow.

Because Arrow didn't make the extras on the Dawn DVD, they are ports from extras done by other companies and are in standard definition not HD. The Day extras are in HD and were produced by Arrow, hence the NTSC/PAL issue isn't a problem.

Re: Dawn of the Dead / Day of the Dead - UK Releases (Arrow; Region Free)

@Lastdaysofrain: I took Adam Tyner's advice and contacted Arrow directly. They say "all content on" the lone Blu-Ray disc of their Dawn of the Dead box set(?) "is HD". Therefore my copy MUST be defective.
