I haven't seen the Abyss since I bought the original non-anamorphic DVD back in the day. I'd be down for a 4k to watch with my kids.

My guess would be A) the JLC strip scene is viewed as awkward at best in this day and age and B) the main villain is pretty much a stereotypical Islamic terrorist caricature.

I’m not saying I think that but I could see how many would. I just watched this for the first time in a long time and I forgot how much fun it is. Really one of the best action films of the 90s IMO. Glad I took a chance on disc with the red case. :D

Bill Hunt states he checked with some industry people The Abyss (and Tombstone) will NOT be released this year, but 2023. Abyss to coincide with Avatar 2 and Tombstone since it’s the 30th Anniversary.

Avatar 2 comes out this year though. So would that be very early 2023 then? Dec. 2022 would be more likely if that’s what they want to do.

My guess is Abyss physical release at the same time as the Avatar 2 home release. I just hope the digital is available sometime much sooner.

I believe the story is that Cameron said he couldn't look at True Lies again after 9/11 happened.

It’s the 25th Anniversary for Titanic. If the don’t do a release for that they’re fools.

i hope we get both versions remastered on The Abyss. i'd really only watch the extended, but they have to include both.
