Same here saw it in the theater but then on home video enjoyed the DC much more. I can watch both but prefer the DC. BUT I have not seen it since the good ole 5 Star DVD came out.

I'm probably partial to the theatrical version because that's the one I saw first. But, hey, I'm one of the few that thinks the theatrical version of Blade Runner is the best version, so what do I know?

I would have seriously thought about going 4K. But I guess I can put it off a bit longer.

I watched The Abyss: Special Edition on the weekend.

This release, whenever it comes out, better have both cuts.

FWIW, True Lies is now making the rounds on Cinemax for those who have it and want to watch.

True Lies is now owned by Disney. Not sure if they'd put a new release out even if Cameron was willing.

Cameron is a proven moneymaker.
Disney will do whatever he wants done.

Can't Disney do whatever they want if they own it, with or without Cameron's permission or does Cameron like own rights that Disney can't touch?

I think Cameron owns the rights through his company Lightstorm Entertainment.

He would just need Disney to distribute it.

See post 219 above.

Even in the cases where Cameron doesn't own the movie outright, he allegedly has it in his contract that he must personally approve new video masters.

The Abyss has had a Blu-ray transfer awaiting his review since at least 2010. Note that he didn't say he actually planned to review it, just that it's waiting.

Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

Also, as noted in my post that was deleted in the merge of these threads for some reason, Cameron's own comment is from November 2018, not March of this year. Nothing new at all here (yet).

Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

I don't know if this is news to warrant bumping this thread. I was lurking at that other forum that shall not be named here, but apparently you can do a disc to digital conversion for True Lies and The Abyss on VUDU. I did a search and both movies come up but aren't for sale. Just thought that might be worth passing along.

True Lies can be upgraded DVD to HDX while Abyss can only be DVD to SD.

Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

I watched True Lies and Abyss in HD on one of the movie channels while we were visiting family. They look great and it's a bummer that they aren't on 4K or blu ray yet.

Didn't Cameron oversee the abomination that is Terminator 2 UHD 4K? Even we get Abyss and True Lies on Blu or 4K, I wouldn't be surprised if I have to hold onto my dvd's.
