This is recurring theme, I love...

Love it!! I think I’ve seen the name. He should be more recognized like Horner or Zimmer. The Terminator is iconic!

Yeah, checked it out the other night being hopeful. Doesn't look HD to me and it's not even widescreen.

-sigh-

Anyways, dumb question but was there ever a ďopen matteĒ 4x3 DVD released? If itís the same as the laserdisc transfer that Cameron thought was okay, that might be a holdover solution.

I'm glad I can watch True Lies again but this transfer looks awful.

True Lies and The Abyss (extended and regular cut) both recently aired on HBO less than 6 months ago and both have fine HD transfers.

I laughed.

Well, it wasnít so much a laugh as a smirk but it was somewhere on the spectrum of amusement.

James Cameron offers an update on his new scan/ and subsequent physical release of “The Abyss”

Cameron: “Yeah, we finished the transfer and I wanted to do it myself because Mikael [Salomon] did such a beautiful job with the cinematography on that film. It is truly, truly gorgeous cinematography. [...] So I just recently finished the high-def transfer a couple of months ago so presumably there’ll be Blu-rays and it will stream with a proper transfer from now on. I appreciate what you said about the film. It didn’t make much money in its day, but it does seem to be well-liked over time.”

Well-liked? Are you kidding me Mr. Cameron? There are people out here who would climb over all their fellow humans and step on each head to get to the front of the line to buy this on BD...

:p

I wonder if thatís what has taken so long - his perception that itís not a fan favorite so he didnít bother giving it any attention?

Gizmo 12-24-21 03:36 PM

Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

And now, itís (eventual) BD release wonít even make a blip on the release charts. Great job, Cameron.

Bluelitespecial 12-25-21 02:06 PM

Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

Since he’s only mentioning The Abyss I’m guessing he’s trying to pretend True Lies doesn’t exist anymore.

Looks like The Abyss is happening finally. in August

Is GeekGab reliable? Otherwise I hate when they add the word "tentatively." Day one for me.

If thatís true Iíll grab The Abyss.

A lot of what GeekGab posts is from international retailers, which is the case here. (The second screenshot in that tweet is a translated version of this link.)

Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

Yeah, I don't follow Twitter much but everything I've read about GeekGab is that they'll use basically anything as a source to try to be "first" to break release details and if they're right, they're right; if they're wrong, they can always go back and delete the tweet....kind of the broken clock is right two times a day mentality.

Serious question does Cameron pretend True Lies doesn't exist anymore?

Michael Corvin 01-15-22 02:53 PM

Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

I haven't seen the Abyss since I bought the original non-anamorphic DVD back in the day. I'd be down for a 4k to watch with my kids.

My guess would be A) the JLC strip scene is viewed as awkward at best in this day and age and B) the main villain is pretty much a stereotypical Islamic terrorist caricature.

Iím not saying I think that but I could see how many would. I just watched this for the first time in a long time and I forgot how much fun it is. Really one of the best action films of the 90s IMO. Glad I took a chance on disc with the red case. :D

Bill Hunt states he checked with some industry people The Abyss (and Tombstone) will NOT be released this year, but 2023. Abyss to coincide with Avatar 2 and Tombstone since it’s the 30th Anniversary.

What year is it????

Ha, 2023. Typo.

Avatar 2 comes out this year though. So would that be very early 2023 then? Dec. 2022 would be more likely if that’s what they want to do.

Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

My guess is Abyss physical release at the same time as the Avatar 2 home release. I just hope the digital is available sometime much sooner.

I believe the story is that Cameron said he couldn't look at True Lies again after 9/11 happened.

Itís the 25th Anniversary for Titanic. If the donít do a release for that theyíre fools.

Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

i hope we get both versions remastered on The Abyss. i'd really only watch the extended, but they have to include both.

TomOpus 01-20-22 02:47 PM

Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

At this point, I'll settle for one version. Either version is fine.
