Interesting news from Shout Factory....

As many of you are already aware, last year they did what Rhino was never able to finish and released the complete series of the Sunbow produced 1980's G.I. JOE cartoon series...in that set, they left an extra spot for their planned eventual release of the "series finale" DTV animated film....
Anyway, they have apparently now been able to locate and secure a print that they have described as being in "excellent condition" (as the film was originally planned to be released theatrically), and so now in addition to DVD, they will also be putting this out on Blu-ray!

Now if only we could get SF to do a BD release here in the USA for Transformers: The Movie to compliment their complete set of that series...I have the UK BD, but I want a release with lossless audio and extras....

Nice, Ill pick this up if reviews are good. Hopefully TF the movie will come soon as well and maybe even the newer Resolute short that recently came out last year.

I don't remember much about the movie, but I do remember thinking it sucked ass. But I'll still get it to complete my footlocker.

Yup. But, you know, so did the rest of the cartoon series for the most part. It's still an essential part of my childhood.

Anyway, it's hard to hate a movie that opens with a musical number set to aerial combat around the Statue of Liberty.

I'll get it. Despite Cobra La and the silly "he's gone into a coma" last minute change, I always dug this movie.

I'm pretty sure in the link it says the print they found doesn't have the "coma" line tacked on.

Maybe here in the USA, but like I mentioned in the original post, I have the original animated 1986 Transformers: The Movie on Blu-ray Disc that was released a couple years ago in the UK....single layer disc, MPEG-2 encode, DTS 5.1 audio (not lossless), no extras....apparently it is now out of print...

was that in 16:9 or the original 4:3? Also..how was the quality on it?

Transformers: The Movie is in 16:9. The quality is... OK.

As much as I hate to believe that TF:TM was 4:3, I kinda wish it was 16:9 considering it was released in theaters. Maybe it's my memory but did the 16:9 of the film have a "transfer" over it's FF version on the same SE set we got here? I remember seeing the OAR on the 2nd dvd and not being pleased by the transfer of it while the widescreen, top and bottom cut out sadly to make it widescreen, had maybe a "crisper" picture?

nice review Josh! So, do you think it's worth it to import it for more than 40 bucks? Or should I just stick with my anamorphic NTSC dvd?

I'm glad to own the Blu-ray, but I don't believe I paid nearly that much for it. It's really up to how much the movie is worth to you.

I picked this up from X-ploited cinema about 2 years ago i think for 22.00 plus shipping.
was well worth the price while there are no special features, it looks pretty darn good.

If shout factory were to re release it, i would hope though that all the special features from the prior dvd release were included
