Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th

Blah I knew I shouldn't have opened my copy from BB but my wife wanted to watch it so I opened it and sure enough we've got the issue.

Our BB isn't the smartest so I knew the exchange would be a little easier unopened, but hopefully they get some sort of e-mail on Tuesday about the new version...

Exchanged mine today at Best Buy. They took it without the receipt. The new copy has the yellow UPC sticker. Disc one is now blue instead of gray. Disc two looks unchanged.

Since Best Buy now has them, I hope Amazon's stock shows up soon. They still have the "10-13 day" shipping status on the listing.

Nice!

Is the UPC # the same as the defective one?

Is the only difference a yellow barcode instead of white?

Thanks.

Nope, last digit is 5 instead of 4.

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th

Picked up my replacement at BB in Bolingbrook last night. I guess since it's a different SKU they had to refund my original order and recharge the new one at the same price. Whatever.

Fry's in Downers Grove also has the new version out if anyone goes there.

Checked the scenes last night and Hanks' coffee machine now functions properly.

The yellow UPC is just a sticker placed on the outside of the case before they shrink wrapped it. The original white UPC is still intact/unchanged and part of the cover art (both pictures are from my same copy).

If the two smaller numbers outside the barcode lines are part of the UPC number, then the last 2 numbers changed from 44 to 51.

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th

Just exchanged mine at BB in Johnson City, TN. I took a printout of Paramount's announcement, and was glad I did, because no one knew anything about the defective disc. No problems returning though. Yellow sticker on back of new disc. CS girl asked to keep my printout in case others came in to exchange.

How did you determine this? I typed it in on the website and it was not found.

Yeah the old one is already gone from the website. I bought mine through the site so my original order still has the old SKU on it. Both were there on Saturday so I kept track of which one got removed. The only one that will come up on the site now is the new one. This one was showing as backordered over the weekend. I originally thought it was original SKU that was backordered but I had it reversed.

Clear as mud right?

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th

Even presenting the printed articles about the Paramount recall, the geniuses that work at Walmart still tried to put up a fight about the return. Finally after about 15 minutes, and fighting to not have to pay "$5 more because its a different item based on the SKU" I was able to swap my copy.

Oh, and the geniuses were putting the NEW copies in a box to be returned once I got to the electronics dept, not the defective ones! I had to speak to a manager to "let" them give me one with the yellow label and explain to them that these were the correct versions... I shouldve been compensated for my time spent with these morons. lol

It constantly depresses me when I have to deal with employees who know less about how to do their job than I do. I have 12 years retail systems support experience, but I think 3 months of being conscious would be enough to understand what the recall is about.

I was in Walmart yesterday and they still had 3 copies of the old disc on the shelf. I guess they didn't get the memo.

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th

I exchanged mine at BB this morning. I handed my old copy with receipt to the girl, told her of the defect, and showed her the new yellow UPC on the replacement. She fiddled with her register for ages, and told me that I had got $10 off the original copy (Reward Zone $) but that didn't apply to a new copy!

Needless to say, I wasn't having that. I told her that the price wasn't an issue as I just wanted to exchange faulty merchandise. So of course she calls another girl over, and then they spend more time staring at the register before the second girl finally figures it out.

The last time I was in this BB (Landmark Center, Boston) I had to fight to get them to use the Toy Store manufacturers coupons. Am getting a bit sick of having to fight to get things right in this store.

Now shows as "In stock but may require an extra 1-2 days to process," so they'll likely start going out over the next few days.

Mine is not a sticker. It's printed on the cover art as usual

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th

Exchanged mine today at BB with little fanfare. The young lady hadn't heard of the defect or the return but another did. The SKU's were different so it took her a couple minutes wrangling return the old one, then discount the new one but it was pretty painless.

I wasn't having any problems with mine but it didn't make sense to take any chances.

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th

I called the hotline and was told not to worry about a receipt when I went back to BB. I then called BB to double check as nothing ticks me more than the right not knowing what the left is doing and sure enough, BB wants the receipt. As I have no clue as to where that is, they can look it up providing you present the card you bought the disc with. If you paid cash, I have no idea how this will pan out for you. In any event, I am on my way to BB to get the correct version.

For those who may only have Target nearby and don't shop online, they had out the corrected versions today.

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th

I can appreciate BB wanting the receipt. They may want to track how many units of the old SKU they take back to get a better picture of how much they're sending back to Paramount. They could have avoided this by using the same SKU for the replacement disc, but using a different SKU is what makes it easier to know it's the new disc.

This is why I hate defects. Just get it right the first time.
