Re: Minority Report - April 20, 2010

it always makes me wonder what people are working in studios and are responsible for such cover design!
judging from the comments the public really seems to hate the design, so
maybe the studios should concentrate on what the customers want and not
force what they feel the customers want on us
sometimes feels like they are living in their own studio bubble and have no
clue what is going on in the outside world
they should definitely hire more true movie fans for such positions, because
they would never allow such horribly cover crimes to happen

Well, that is totally the worst part! There are better Photoshop users on this board, and they do silly things like stick the Batmobile into family photos!

Actually I think you have the bubble thing backwards. You aren't the target customer. You are aware of the film and going to buy the movie regardless. They can already count on your purchase. The target customer is joe schmoe walking by the shelf and sees Tom Cuise's head as it's hard to miss.

It's one thing to design a cool cover. It's another thing to design a cool cover that will draw in people that know nothing about the movie. That's where the star of the movie and giant floating heads comes in.

This is a good plan, but if it's really what they're going for, they should try using a photo of Tom Cruise instead of a smoothed-out Crash Test Dummy.

I can just imagine the reaction to Collateral's cover. "Oh look, a buddy cop movie with Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx!"

Cover art makes it look like DTV trash.

But on the other hand, movie title/cover designs are pretty recognizable to most people... by changing it so dramatically don't they lose the branding and familiarity that the previous art provided for yrs?

Instead of an elegant Spielberg film this now looks like a Replicant/Sixth Day sequel, with an almost unrecognizable Tom Cruise.

I have to agree it's lame. It should look gritty, not overly Photoshopped. Cruise's face hasn't been that smooth since he was 9.

Re: Minority Report - April 20, 2010

This was in my gold box last week for 18.99, so I pre-ordered. I'd pay more as I love this film, but I don't the price being better than that for the foreseeable future.

Re: Minority Report - April 20, 2010

Truly awful cover art. Where did they get that font, a 1993 edition of MS WordPerfect? I wouldn't have even noticed it in the store because it looks like SyFy-sploitation straight-to-video crud.

I've never been one to print up custom cover art from the internet, but I might do it for this one.

Collateral had ass art as well. That's why I'm now in the custom cover business. Behold, my first custom cover.

Re: Minority Report - April 20, 2010

I don't understand why people care about such superficial garbage like cover art. The cover art could be Tom Cruise taking a dump directly into Colin Farrell's open mouth for all I care, as long as the contents of the disc itself are solid.

I believe that is the second image on the lenticular slipcover.

Re: Minority Report - April 20, 2010

I wonder if the UK release will be exactly the same now we have had a review in of it.
Really want the steelbook.
Also we get artcards! Surely the evil stepchild of DVD/BD extras.
