Got Death Wish II yesterday and it is a great disc. Never seen the X cut before but damn, you can see why it was cut
Also has a great commentary from the author of Bronson's Loose, and it was very informative.
Also a reversible cover like the old VHS:

Also the scene of the death of Bronson's Daughter is longer. That was also cut for the R rating.

Sounds tantalizing. I never saw the R rated. Have the old combo Blu. Don't even think I remember first one. I should get on that, huh?

I don't think anyone involved with DW 2 that is still alive would want to be in any extras. The Electric boogaloo documentary has the daughter and screenwriter talk about it. The commentary track is very good, would love to see Death Wish 3 get a similar release.

Interesting piece on how Peet Gelderbloom's fan edit of RAISING CAIN became Brian DePalma's director's cut (which is included on the upcoming Blu-ray):

It's also still available for viewing here (bottom of page), as is the 12-minute video essay (also on Shout's BD):

That's awesome. I was going to wait to pick up Cain, but now time to preorder.

Yeah...I'm thinking of picking this one up on release week as well...it's on Best Buy's website so I'm hoping they run a sale that week. Finally can get rid of my ole 3-pack dvd (with Watcher & Fear). Raising Cain was the standout of that 3 some anyway (though Fear is a guilty pleasure for me).

I never knew pre-orders from Shout shipped weeks early. That plus the 20% sale they had over $15 made it easy for me to throw all my Shout pre-orders at them for the next couple months. Some good stuff coming.

Yeah, totally unexpected as I had forgotten the release date. Looks like great extras too...

I ordered The Return of the Living Dead from Amazon and it just came yesterday.
Wow, this set is insanely loaded.
It looks like it includes this documentary:
https://www.amazon.com/More-Brains-R...he+living+dead
More Brains: A Return to the Living Dead as an extra and that is sold for $12 by itself.
Can't wait to go through this.
Even though Shout ships the discs a few weeks early, I'd rather save the extra $7-8 and get it through Amazon with the free Prime shipping.
Looks like I ordered it just in time before the price went back up to MSRP. I got it for $21 and change.

I hate these (Cronenberg) covers. There's nothing classy about the way they look. It's a good thing Shout releases the original art on the reverse cover.

I couldn't care less about the cover art. It's the meat inside that counts, specifically that we're given a good transfer, and excellent, high-bitrate encode without artifacts, EE, DNR, with original color-timing, etc!
For RABID, there's a modicum of hope that Shout will transfer the title with the original theatrical color-timing intact. Arrow didn't do this, but kowtowed to Cronenberg's and / or the DP's 'modern' wishes. So, it's absolutely valid that we get another try at RABID without Cronenberg's interference.

Small question about Return of the Living Dead - is the default audio when you play the movie the original (well, original except for one song) theatrical audio, or do you have to select it?

It's currently $21.06 as I write this, but Amazon's been switching between that and around $38 (is that MSRP?) for the last day or so. So tempted to bite before it settles.
