re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread

I picked up the new Darkman release this past week via Amazon.

The transfer is definitely disappointing. I watched about 45 minutes of it and it really looks like a dated transfer.

However, the extras are pretty solid if you care to view them. I enjoyed seeing the brand new interview with Liam Neeson reflecting back on the movie. I'm surprised that Shout was able to snag him considering how busy he is. I also enjoyed the featurette with the production designer and art director. Seeing the old Making of feature from 1990 was also kind of cool.

I'll try to finish the movie tomorrow and view more of the featurettes.

Question, are there any good home video options right now for Darkman 2 and 3? Or are they only on DVD?

They got Alec Baldwin on the Shadow disc too which is equally surprising.

Its weird that Raimi is MIA on pretty much everything older than Spider-Man in the Blu-ray era. He did that new commentary for "The Evil Dead" but that's because he actually owns the film outright along with Tapert and Campbell (who are coincidentally the three commentary participants) whereas all the other ones were released by other studios. I wonder if he's flat-out turning them down or if he's willing but they can't work the timing out or something.

Our “Summer of Fear” release slate continues to get scarier with two more films added: 1973’s THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE (starring Roddy McDowell) and 1980’s slasher romp MOTEL HELL will both be coming to Blu-ray in August. MOTEL will be getting our “Collector’s Edition” treatment with slipcover and the newly-designed artwork is already in the works.

No other details to report at this time but more will be revealed in May/June as to the specifics.

I've heard a lot about Motel Hell but haven't seen it. That might be a blind buy for me. Not sure about The Legend of Hell House.

I saw The Legend of Hell House a couple years ago and liked it. It's similar in tone to The Haunting and The Innocents, if you've seen either of those.

I really enjoy both movies. Legend of Hell House is almost like a 70s remake of the Haunting in a lot of ways (I may be totally alone in that feeling though)

Legend Of Hell House! Fucking A!

Instant buy for me. This movie scared the shit out of me as a kid and still gives me gooseflesh. It's one of Richard Matheson's best adaptations on film in my opinion (though it should be since he adapted the screenplay from his own novel).

Roddy McDowall showed he could play more than an ape in the 70's and the entire cast is excellent. I personally think this is one of the best haunted house movies ever made (though I am sure there is a little nostalgia bias in there).

Very happy to dump my dvd for this!

Lord of Illusions isn't great, but it is entertaining. I'll get it.

There's just something about these classic horror and slasher titles that are fun to me. Modern horror films just aren't the same. Might pick up The Legend of Hell House too. I wish Scream Factory titles would go on sale sometime before October as there's quite a list of titles I'd like but haven't jumped on yet.

I'll probably pick up Lord of Illusions if it's cheap enough. I wonder if Scream Factory will be using the same materials as 101 Films (UK) had with their release this year.

Jesus... how long has Barker teasing The Scarlet Gospels?

At this point in history, I expect The Last Dangerous Visions to come out before The Scarlet Gospels.

What's interesting about it is that while it uses a slasher formula, there's actually very little killing in it. The victims are treated in a most unusual way!

A long fucking time but they've been officially done for a while now and are in the hands of the publisher. It's up to them to set the release date.

Man, I saw Lord of Illusions in theaters and I had the DVD. I hope they remaster and release it in it's UNRATED version. This will mostly come out before the Cabal cut of Nightbreed does.

One of main reasons why I hope Scream Factory isn't using the same materials as the 101 Films (UK) release earlier this year.

That release had the Theatrical Cut on Blu-Ray and the Director's Cut on DVD.

**ARTWORK REVEAL: PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE**

Check out the new key art for our upcoming Collector's Edition of Brian DePalma’s classic rock-horror experience THE PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE! This colorful and campy vision comes to us from veteran Scream Factory artist Justin Osbourn (Prince of Darkness, The Fog, Lifeforce).

The blu-ray release is planned for August 5th and we'll have full details on extras to report to you in early Summer. Pre-order links on our site at http://www.shoutfactory.com/screamfactory should appear in May in which a limited edition 18" x 24" poster of the art will be available exclusively through us with purchase of the combo.

I already own the Arrow BD of Phantom of the Paradise, but I'll definitely double-dip if this transfer is similar to the French BD.
