Apparently, there is an issue...or at least a bunch of whiners on the BR forums.... with Explorers. I'm couldn't make my way through the muck to figure out what the actual issue was though.

Yeah, the remake of HoW is stupid, cheesy fun.

I think I found it:

The bluray uses the same master from the streaming version so it looks almost as bad. The bluray has a little bit better image quality but not much. Everything still looks DNR'd to hell. I'm a little disappointed Shout didn't use or have access to a new scan but overall I'm glad to finally have it on blu-ray.

As I understand it, -and this goes back to the old DVDs, -the image was slightly squeezed. It's suggested that it's a 1:78 image but squeezed to 1:85. The "tell" is that round shapes, -like the ship, -are slightly oval instead. It's still true on the Shout! blu-ray.

I was really looking forward to that one but I already have the digital theatrical version, not going to buy this if it isn’t any better.

The extras for Brotherhood of the Wolf. I'm guessing that's just the extras from previous releases that didn't come out in the US.

It's a few years old by this point but the film transfer on Scream Factory's Quatermass and the Pit is fantastic, probably the best-looking Hammer transfer I've seen.

Posted in the UHD thread, but I’ll throw it here as well.
Halloween 1-4 will be released on UHD in September.

Eh.. I mean part of me is tempted, but I’ve got the Scream Factory 15 disc Halloween box set. Maybe I would consider upgrading and putting the new discs in that set. Not going to rush to upgrade though, other than maybe the original.

I have that set as well as the first on 4k and a dvd of the tv version (well actually the reg version with added tv scenes).
I’m really only interested in 1 if it’s a new transfer. I’ll definitely get 2&3. I’d buy H20 if they got that far. 4,5 & 6 I’d pick up only if they found some missing lost scenes or something, but I don’t watch those that often. The less said about 8 and the Zombie films, the better.

Seems weird they are going to 4, I would have expected either 1-3 or 1-6

I've never heard of that and googling didn't tell me anything. Rights-wise, aren't 2 and 3 with one studio, and 4-6 with another (or maybe it's 4-5)? That's what drove my comment.

I’ve never heard of the Genesis trilogy either. Not questioning, just surprised as a fan of the series.
I always looked at it like :
1,2 & 7
4,5 & 6
3
With the new films it seems they want :
1,9,10 & 11

It’s a shame 2 and to a lesser extent 7 are supposed to be forgotten.

Never heard of the Genesis trilogy either. The Thorn trilogy is The Return of Michael Myers, The Revenge of Michael Myers, and The Curse of Michael Myers.

The Return of Michael Myers is actually one of my favorites in the franchise. Probably the best one featuring Michael outside of the original. I like Season of the Witch a lot too.

Actually really thinking about it those four movies are probably the ones I’d be most apt to want to upgrade really as they’re my favorites other than the second one, which is just okay.

I've never heard of a "Genesis Trilogy," either, but I've always thought that Halloween 1, 2, and 4, make a nice, complete story. It's with the Halloween 5 that it goes off the rails.

re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread

Except that the fourth film ends on a huge cliffhanger. It could have served as an ending I suppose though. Bringing things full circle to show that the cycle continues.

The fifth film may be the one I like the least though. Just not a very good entry, and such a letdown. I imagine the reasoning was that they didn’t want a young girl being the murderer, which I get, but they could have flashed forward to make her older. Either way making her suddenly a mute for like half the movie is weird. I also never understood why they killed off the Rachel character so quickly when she actually was a good final girl in the fourth film. Unless the actress was only available for a short time so they just shot her scenes quick.

Isn’t the ‘Genesis Trilogy’ a Star Trek thing?

re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread

Are Halloween 1-4 being offered on UHD BD as a set, or individually?

Either way, I really hope they include as many legacy special features as possible (including those from the earlier Scream BD set).

Nice to see 5 in the mix as well (even if 5 is one of my least favorites). But woof, that is some terrible artwork across the board.

You aren't kidding about the bad artwork. Yikes! At least Shout/Scream Factory usually creates reversible cover art.
