Re: The One and Only Shout and Scream Factory Blu-ray Thread

The Warner DVD of Someone's Watching Me included a short but good interview with Carpenter, so presumably Shout would have no trouble getting that, or even a new and expanded one? Even though it's not a collector's edition, surely they could scrape together an extra interview or two? Lauren Hutton and Adrienne Barbeau are still around and working . . .

Re: The One and Only Shout and Scream Factory Blu-ray Thread

I'll more than likely replace the snapper SD of In the Mouth of Madness with this Collector's Edition BD, it's one of my favorite horror movies, but that is one BUTT-UGLY cover. Where did they dredge up that artist? I hope the cover is reversible...

If you bought "Drag Me To Hell", the replacement program is in place for Disc Two. I requested my replacement online last Tuesday night and got my disc by Friday.

I did a blind buy on the first movie and liked it a lot. Iíll probably do the same for the sequel, and I know the Vestron Video line released the third movie so Iíll probably get that by the yearís end too.

Iíve been meaning to pick up Screamís release of Return of the Living Dead. Having the second film on the way and the Arrow release of the third gives me more incentive to buy them.

Man, that Mac & Me disc had better be LOADED with special features mocking the shit out of it, and Paul Rudd for giggles. I couldn't possibly sit through it again any other way, and even then I'd probably just want to rent/borrow it.

That is fantastic news about Return of the Living Dead II. Even though I really don't like the movie much at all.

Do it. Even the special features are awesome given how many people involved in the movie take part in them.

As for Brainscan and ROTLD II, are they any good? Before now I've never read anything that would lead me to believe they are worth picking up.

Re: The One and Only Shout and Scream Factory Blu-ray Thread

Brainscan was slicker and smarter than one might have expected at the time, with a reasonably sharp sense of humor. It cleverly piggybacked on the era's hysterical hand-wringing over video games causing violence, and benefited from above-average production values in an era when a lot of second-tier horror movies seemed to get by with barely-better-than-TV-movie technical specs. Probably the last decent movie from the underrated director John Flynn, who'd delivered a few solid programmers over the years (The Outfit, Rolling Thunder, Best Seller, Lock Up, Out For Justice). Too bad he's no longer around for a commentary (unless he already did one?). The early CG effects probably look a bit goofy today, but that's never really a legitimate criticism. I'd buy a Shout SE at a really good sale price, perhaps.

Brainscan was one of the better horror films of the mid 90s, released right before Scream, and it's clones, started pouring out. Great concept, with a good antagonist. Definitely sets a dark/mute mood throughout the entire film, and IMO should be watched by anyone who is a fan of video games and the horror genre.

Re: The One and Only Shout and Scream Factory Blu-ray Thread

Thanks for the posts about Brainscan. If there is a $14.99 like sale at BB or some other place I think you have talked me into buying.

Any thoughts on ROTLD II? I have the I and III BD's and really enjoyed them. But the few reviews I have read were pretty unkind to II.

It's basically a crappy remake of the original movie with the same two leads playing different but very similar characters, amping up the first one's comedic elements but in a clumsy way that's never actually funny, and draining away any sense of tension or pacing. At the same time, I can't say no to it.

Brainscan is definitely worth $15 if you enjoyed pre-Scream 90s horror.

It's much more kid-friendly than parts 1 & 3...Probably the reason why it was meant to coincide with the Mac/Me release!

Re: The One and Only Shout and Scream Factory Blu-ray Thread

I had held off upgrading my ROTLD discs from DVD but now that all three are on Blu, I think I'm going to track down 1 and 3 so I can get the trilogy on nice editions.
